No foolin’!

Yesterday, our crew, along with our friends from nearby Air Evac bases, participated in our quarterly training and spent the day with our educator and medical director doing in-depth simulations as well as learning a new skill: the finger thoracostomy!

This skill allows our clinicians a new way to treat patients with collapsed lungs and help rid the chest cavity of air or blood to re-inflate the lung. While we have always had a way to do so, this method can be employed if less-invasive measures have not relieved symptoms or if the patient is in an extreme amount of distress. Additionally, we will pair the use of an antibiotic in the field with this procedure to help mitigate the risk of infection.

This is just another tool in our arsenal to provide critical emergency care wherever we may go.

Thanks to Dr. Huff and our educator Eric for all their hard work to get us trained up on this!

🎈A lot to celebrate at 144!🎈

Firstly, HUGE congratulations are in order to our base pilot supervisor, Mike, for completing 1000 successful patient flights!!! 1000 lives positively impacted. 1000 people who were able to get access to definitive care in their time of need. We are so proud of your incredible achievement!

Secondly, join us in congratulating Flight Nurse Danielle on receiving her 50 flight wings! 50 flights is the first milestone for our crew members and we are so thrilled to have you on our team! Soon enough you’ll be having your own 1000th flight party 😄

Tonight, 144 completed its first balloon pump transfer! Presenting the balloon pump with its “first flight” wings, are Ryleigh and Scott!

🪽First wings!🪽

We’d like to introduce our newest flight nurse, Josh, who earned his first flight wings today by going on a call less than 30 seconds into his very first shift!!

We are so excited to have Josh on our team and be sure to say “hi” if you see him around!

Presenting him with his inaugural wings is our pilot, Branden.

Also pictured are some photos of Josh, Ryan, and Scott from Josh’s mock flight a couple weeks ago with Lifeguard EMS, who we would like to thank for their help on that day.

And finally, a big thank you to McDonough District Hospital for the transfer call this morning! 🚁
