This Feeding Tube Awareness Week, we’re celebrating the life-changing power of feeding tubes and individuals like Conner who use them!
As a toddler, Conner was in a car accident with his dad and older brother. Doctors said the accident was not survivable. But Conner did survive – thanks to his mom’s unfailing faith in him and support from his family, community, and medical teams.
Conner spent three months in the hospital after the accident. When he finally came home, he was quadriplegic and dependent on a G-tube, trach, and vent. “I knew how much of a miracle Conner truly is,” his mom recalls. “I chose hope for Conner. I chose a positive environment. This May will be 20 years after the accident. He’s had struggles since then, but he’s also had so much joy.”
In addition to in-home nursing care, Conner’s feeding tube and other medical equipment help make his joyful, adventurous life possible. Despite the obstacles he faces, he is thriving and smiling as he travels around the country and enjoys each day surrounded by loved ones. “This journey seemed unbearable in the beginning,” Conner’s mom shares. “I didn’t think we would survive. But we are stronger than we think we are. It’s not always easy, but every day is a gift. I can’t imagine my path without Conner.”
