Resident Spotlight: Jim

Jim is not her real name. Her real name is James. She has lived in Macon since she was two years old. Jim graduated from Southwest High School. She attended Mercer University and worked there for 14 years. She also used to do obituaries for The Telegraph. Jim has been invaluable to this Resident Council and her spirit of volunteerism is above and beyond all expectations. Most recently she made hundreds of washable and reusable face masks for the residents of the building.

We are almost at completion of our Resident Food Bank. Shelves have been stocked. Donations have been made - residents REALLY came through. A refrigerator has been donated by a friend at Nextdoor Vineville and it has been delivered and placed by friends in the community. Many residents have been involved in this in physical work, coordinating, and/or brain power. Thanks to everyone involved!

Thanks to Bibb County Commssioner Seth Clark and the city of Macon, residents received their 2nd vaccine today. Thank you, thank you, thank you - we are so grateful.

Today many of us had our first COVID vaccinations. We are people that are usually forgotten in our society. We are old and/or disabled. But today our city came through for us. Our District 5 Commissioner, Seth Clark, and the MTA and the County Health Department all worked together and bused us over to get vaccinated. We are scheduled for the second vaccine on April 6th. I can't begin to express the gratitude that we feel. Our city/county bent over backwards to help us, the forgotten ones. There wasn't a person on those buses that wasn't smiling. What a great town this is!

We're getting our vaccines! The MTA buses will pick us up at 9:30 am on Tuesday, March 9th and drive us to our appointment at the Bibb County Health Department. Thank you to our district 5 Bibb County Commissioner Seth Clark and all the others involved in the coordinating. We are eternally grateful!

Resident Spotlight: Bea

Bea has lived at VCT for 23 years. She is one of the oldest residents at 88 years. She has a big heart and helps neighbors in need, gives people rides everywhere, and has probably fed everyone in the building at least once.

We started a Go Fund Me page (just now) so that anyone who is inclined can donate to the council. It's under the name "Help Seniors Have Fun," but seriously, we're always in need of money. We have (at the very least) monthly printing costs. We're trying to start a food bank for residents in need. So far I've personally absorbed the costs, but... I need help!
