A team of Mercer Biomedical Engineering students helped fit a bilateral below-knee amputation in D**g Thap, Vietnam. This patient has been walking on his knees for over 20 years and now he can walk on new legs thanks to the group.

Hi everyone! It has been a long time since our students and faculties are able to travel with Mercer On Mission - Orthopedic and Prosthetic Mission. This year our team had a successful return trip to Preah Vihear, Kingdom of Cambodia. During the trip, we reached out to a total of 459 patients (including 369 prosthetic legs, 42 prosthetic hands, and 48 orthopedic patients with disabilities). We are looking forward to expanding our service in Cambodia in the upcoming years to cope with the demand for prosthetic services and orthopedic treatments in the country! We will keep you posted with further updates. Thank you so much for your support!

MERCER ON MISSION VIETNAM: CAMBODIA
DECEMBER 17-19, 2019

This past December, Mercer on Mission-VN was able to travel to Preah Vihear, a province of Cambodia to introduce our mission. Despite the language barrier and the team's first time being in Cambodia, we were able to provide 80 prostheses (71 prosthetic legs and 9 prosthetic hands). Dr. Ha Van Vo, Mercer Distinguished University Professor of Biomedical Engineering, has helped change the lives of thousands with the innovative prosthetic leg and hand that he developed. His products use a universal socket technology and are low cost and lightweight. Since 2009, Dr. Vo and teams of Mercer students and faculty have traveled to Vietnam to fit amputees with the prosthetic leg during Mercer On Mission trips. In June 2018, the 10,000th Vietnamese amputee was fit with the leg prosthetic. In addition, 200 prosthetic hands have been fit on residents during the past two trips.

Mercer on Mission Vietnam has provided over 10 years of service for the amputees of Vietnam and orthopedic care to thousands of patients. We hope to continue this mission to touch the lives of as many patients as we can possible.
