We loved having students from the psychology seminar class at visit our office this week!

They toured our space, learned how we support families, and participated in an interactive teaching session about Parent–Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) — including how live coaching works and why strengthening the parent-child relationship is such a powerful tool for change.

And of course… the highlight might have been meeting Miles Davis He was more than happy to soak up all the extra attention and show off his very important therapy dog skills.

We’re always grateful for opportunities to connect with students who are exploring psychology and considering helping professions.

The future of mental health is in good hands!

In How to Winter, Kari Leibowitz reminds us that winter isn’t something to “get through.” It’s something to lean into.

One of the most powerful mindset shifts she describes? Embracing rest.

In many cultures, winter is naturally a season of slowing down. Shorter days and colder weather invite reflection, restoration, and quieter rhythms. But in our productivity-driven world, we often resist that pull and we push ourselves to maintain summer energy in a winter season.

What if rest isn’t laziness… What if it’s alignment?

Research shows that when we accept seasonal changes instead of fighting them, we experience better mood, more resilience, and less stress. Rest becomes protective, not indulgent.

❄️ Go to bed a little earlier.
❄️ Build in margin between appointments.
❄️ Trade one evening scroll session for a cozy ritual.
❄️ Let “good enough” be enough this week.

Slowing down is a skill. Giving yourself permission to have lower energy some days is emotionally healthy and developmentally wise for kids, too.

Winter invites us to restore. You don’t have to earn your rest. 💙

Just breathe.

Your breath has been with you all day — in every meeting, every car line, every hard conversation, every joyful moment.

Pause for a second.

Notice your breath right now.
Where do you breathe in — through your nose or your mouth?
Where do you breathe out?

Is it shallow or deep? Fast or slow?
Cool air coming in? Warm air going out?

Mindfulness doesn’t start with clearing your mind.
It starts with noticing what is already happening.

Your breath is an anchor — steady, constant, always available.

And in moments of overwhelm, that simple noticing can bring you back to center.

Just breathe. 🤍

Instagram Post for This Week’s TOP 5 🎬🍿

This week’s TOP 5: Favorite Childhood Movies!

From adventure-filled classics like The Sandlot and The Princess Bride to animated favorites like The Lion King, Tangled, and Toy Story — our office is clearly full of movie lovers.

We noticed some sweet repeats too 👀 (The Wizard of Oz and The Land Before Time showed up a lot!)

And what do you think? Do you think Miles is related to the NeverBeast?

There’s something special about the movies we grew up with — they connect us to memories, family traditions, and simpler times.

What childhood movie would make your TOP 5 list? 🍿✨

In How to Winter, Kari Leibowitz explains that winter isn’t just something to “get through” it’s something we can experience differently.

One simple way? Engage your senses.

Instead of bracing against winter, try noticing it.

SIGHT The sparkle of frost. The soft glow of early sunsets.
SOUND The crunch of snow under your boots. The hush after a snowfall.
TOUCH The contrast of cold air on your cheeks and warmth from a mug in your hands.
SMELL Woodsy air. Cinnamon. A favorite candle.
TASTE Something warm, slow, and comforting.

Research shows that how we interpret winter shapes how we experience it. When we intentionally tune into the sensory details of the season, we shift from resisting it to participating in it.

This week, instead of counting down to spring… Pause. Notice. Engage.

What’s one winter sensation you actually enjoy? ❄️

Mindfulness doesn’t require a quiet room, a yoga mat, or an hour of free time.

It simply asks you to notice.

Right now — pause.
Start at the tips of your toes and slowly scan up to the top of your head.

What do you feel physically?
Warmth? Tightness? Tingling? Heaviness?
Is your jaw clenched? Shoulders lifted? Hands relaxed?

So often we move through the day living from the neck up — thinking, planning, reacting — while our body holds the story of our stress, excitement, and emotions.

When we gently scan and notice, without judgment, two powerful things happen:
✨ We reconnect with ourselves.
✨ We create space to respond instead of react.

And sometimes… we discover something we hadn’t noticed before.

Take 30 seconds today to check in with your body.

This Week’s TOP 5 - Betrayals

This week’s TOP 5 Friday was all about life’s little annoyances — you know, the things that aren’t big problems… but somehow feel like BIG problems. 😂

It turns out our office has strong opinions about
🥕 Carrots being substituted for cookies
🚗 Bright headlights in your rearview mirror
📦 Not enough sauce in your carryout order
📱 No storage on your phone
🛒 Poorly bagged groceries …and so many more

Sometimes it’s fun to laugh about the tiny frustrations that unite us all.

What would make your TOP 5 list of everyday annoyances?

In her book "How to Winter" Dr. Kari Leibowitz explains that taking pictures outside in winter can boost your mood. Why?

🌲 1. Being outdoors connects you with nature
Leibowitz emphasizes the importance of connecting with nature as a way to improve mental well-being rather than just enduring winter. Consciously observing your surroundings helps break negative thought patterns and brings a sense of calm or contentment. Taking photos naturally encourages that kind of focused attention and appreciation of your environment.

☀️ 2. Nature and movement are natural mood boosters
Research shows that movement and fresh air act like natural antidepressants and that simply going outside (even if it’s cold) tends to lift mood. Photography often involves walking, exploring, and being present in the moment, which helps counter feelings of isolation or gloom that can come from staying indoors all the time.

🧠 3. It shifts your mindset and expectations
How we frame winter affects how we experience it. Taking pictures outdoors encourages you to look for the beauty and uniqueness of the season instead of focusing on the cold or darkness. This intentional engagement with your environment can transform your experience of winter from something to endure to something to savor.

Today’s activity is all about tuning in. As you move through your day, pause and notice your senses—what you can see, smell, touch, taste, and hear. The warmth of your coffee mug, the sound of laughter, the colors around you, the feeling of your feet on the ground.

Mindfulness doesn’t have to be complicated. Just noticing brings you back to the present moment. 💛
