The BREN Clinic offers this free course once a year. It is an intensive advocacy class taught by an attorney. It will dive into many of the specifics of Federal and California laws governing special education with an emphasis on helping parents to understand their rights, their children's rights, and the school's responsibilities.

As always, our services and this class are FREE! Spaces are limited.

Nate’s Place will soon be offering cooking classes, both in clinic and in your home. During these classes, we will teach several skills including kitchen safety, measurements, following directions, creativity, independence, and so much more! 🍲 😊 You’ll also be equipped with all the necessary materials, visual schedules, social stories, and anything else your child might need for support!

Spreading autism awareness also includes spreading awareness of the realities of autistic elopement and wandering. These are realities that we must strive everyday for more security in schools and more parent and community awareness. Extra locks are not enough.

Dearest Parents,

Today the Autism Community has experienced the 4th drowning death due to elopement in the past 13 days. This community has experienced nearly 40 deaths due to drowning since June 1, 2024. This is a CRISIS!!

Today, Charlie Newton was found in a lake nearby his home. https://www.wesh.com/article/missing-deltona-child-found-dead-volusia-county/63020393. 4 young boys have lost their lives in the past 13 days.

I can no longer sit back and not help parents keep their children safe when water is near. I am a water safety and drowning prevention educator and I specialize in working with children with autism and their parents. I hope that this post actually gets seen by moms and dads across the country.

I need you to know that there is information that will EDUCATE you on water safety and drowning prevention, will EMPOWER you and give you immediately implementable strategies that you can use to keep your child safer in and around water.

I know that parents are terrified for their children but I want you all to know that I am here to HELP!! 2 weeks ago I hosted a FREE webinar called "The ABCDE's of Water Safety and Drowning Prevention for Parents with a Child with Autism. I want to share it with you in hopes that you will listen to it and it will help you.

If you have any questions, please ask. My time is free. I just want to help. I just want childhood drowning to end and I promise you, I am doing everything I can to reach people, organizations and groups who will share life saving information.

This is your yearly reminder that-

a) Autistic people don't need to be open about being Autistic in order to be treated with kindness

b) Using blue to represent autism is tied into some really problematic parts of Autistic history that persist even to this day

If you need Autistic people to carry a blur pumpkin to show they are Autistic, the problem is not our difference. It's that you require us to compromise our safety in order to be treated with some balance of dignity.

We aim to provide inclusivity to all. Everyone is welcome at our table (and our trunk or treat! 😍). At the event, our wonderful, compassionate staff members are present to assist in anyway they can, ensuring each individual has a great time. 🙌

Started in the 90s, these parking lot parties can be perfect for families skipping traditional trick-or-treating, especially those caring for neurodivergent kids.
