About Death Certificates
We understand how important death certificates are for family members after the loss of a loved one. They are often needed to take care of legal and personal matters. Without them, this process can be more difficult.
Sometimes, however, receiving a death certificate may take longer than expected. Delays can happen if the person did not have recent medical care or had not seen a doctor within the past six months to a year. When there is little or no medical history, it can take more time for a doctor or medical examiner to determine the cause of death.
Most offices and organizations require an official cause of death, not a “pending” cause, in order to complete paperwork. In some cases, a death may need further review before a final cause of death can be issued, which can also add time.
Please know that the funeral home will guide you through this process and will work to obtain the death certificate as quickly as possible.
