Two years ago today, I snapped this picture. I was on my Hawaiian honeymoon, enjoying myself but coping with intense episodes of grief, as I had just lost both of my grandparents five months prior (and my soul dog six months before that).

When this sea turtle swam ashore for a nap on our private beach, I was deeply moved and sat with her quietly while the sun went down, crying and profoundly missing my grandma. I thought of the scene in Moana when the grandmother is dying and reassures Moana that “there is nowhere you could go that I won’t be with you.” I felt my grandmother’s spirit right then.

I plucked the plumeria flowers from my hair and gave them as an offering to the sleeping turtle and my grandmother. At that moment, the plumeria became associated with comfort, peace, and a deep healing that I am forever grateful for.

So when you see Utopia’s logo—the plumeria flower—know that it’s not just meant to be pretty; it’s a symbol of my healing journey AND the experience and feelings I wish for you every time you come to see me for massage or crystal therapy: comforting, peaceful, healing 🌺

Happy Wednesday! ☺️ It’s hard to believe, but I’ve been in business almost a year already! During that time, the most common feedback I’ve received is “I wish you were open on Saturdays!” Well, your wish is my command 🧞‍♀️

I am currently offering the following Saturdays at 10 a.m. and 11:30/Noon for 60- or 90-minute sessions:

This is a very common misconception! 🙃 There is no scientific evidence that massage releases toxins from your muscles (and furthermore, that this toxin release is why you “must” drink water after a massage).

Regular massage therapy can, however, improve circulation, which assists your body’s natural waste-disposing organs (thank you, kidneys and liver!).
