It's Feedback Friday! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"I worked with Lori who was extremely helpful with getting my breastfeeding journey going successfully! My 11 week old is nursing so well now when before we came to her, I was struggling with quite a bit of pain. Lori has been helpful in coming up with different solutions to try as she knows every baby and their preferences are different. Lori has been extremely responsive when I reached out to her with new mom anxiety/struggles with nursing and Lori is always there to provide calm reassurance. Lori always references new research which I really appreciate as it shows she’s up to date on the newest information and she’s always able to provide studies/references to back things up. Nursing my baby is such a wonderful experience now and we wouldn’t be here without Lori’s help!"

First off: Exclusive pumping is breastfeeding! Whatever your reasoning for deciding to exclusively pump we support you.

🍼 MAKE SURE YOUR FLANGES FIT!

🍼 settings will vary by pump but always remember to keep the suction at a comfortable level.

🍼 frequent removal of milk is crucial for maintaining milk supply. In the first 6-8 weeks, your breasts should be stimulated/drained 8-12 times in a 24 hour period. After about 8 weeks, most lactating parents need to pump at least 6-7 times per day to maintain milk supply.

🍼 typical output after about 4 weeks is between 24-32oz/day

🍼 replacing pump parts frequently is important to ensure that your pump is functioning at it's best. For EPers, replacing things like your duckbill valve and backflow protector every 30-60 days can help!

🍼 typically pumping between 15-20 minutes or about 5 minutes longer than when the milk stops flowing is a good rule of thumb for most pumping parents.

Infant massage is an effective tool to support breastfeeding. Offering specific touch & strokes to the head, face, neck and shoulder areas provides sensation to enhance your baby's emotional regulation and coordination for effective and enjoyable feeding. Nurturing touch boosts oxytocin levels for you and your baby, as well as increasing prolactin and endorphins. All this can help get breastfeeding off to a smooth start.

Did you know that breast milk contains substances helpful in regulating the circadian rhythm?

🦃The amino acid Tryptophan - yep, that famous "Thanksgiving turkey makes you tired" tryptophan - is actually found in breastmilk with peak levels in the evening.

🥱The hormone melatonin is also found in breastmilk as it is synthesized from tryptophan. Since newborns do not yet have their own production of melatonin, this may prove helpful in establishing sleep/wake cycles.

💤 If you are pumping or going to give pumped milk, a new trend is to separate morning milk verses nighttime milk to help with what was discussed above. While this is an option, for most it can increase stress trying to portion out AM/PM milk. If this works for you, great! Otherwise just feed your baby the milk that you have and don't worry about WHEN it was expressed. ❤️

"Lori is absolutely amazing. She really takes the time to go over every detail and does a very thorough job. From the very first appointment she began addressing issues that have been missed by other professionals for the past 4 months. Breastfeeding issues are so stressful, but Lori is very comforting, understanding and encouraging. I finally feel like me and my baby girl are in the right hands."
