🥹 It’s been 22 years, but here is a picture of my first home birthed baby.
My first boy, my first home birth, my first water birth, and it was the most amazing labor and daytime birth.
We were all crammed into my bathroom with me in the tub following lunch. I was vocalizing through contractions and my midwife said “you can try giving a little push if you want.”
Without any cervical checks I thought to myself “oh no! We hired the wrong midwife! She doesn’t know when it’s time to push! It can’t be time to push yet! This doesn’t hurt nearly enough!” (All the !!! Because it was labor and the end often feels a bit much.)
And out came our boy, into his father’s hands. He weighed a pound more than the previous baby.
While his birth wasn’t what caused me to pursue becoming a midwife, it definitely set the tone for what I knew birth could be. For me and for others. My expectations were forever changed. I was well midwifed. I had fantastic care prenatally, during birth, and throughout postpartum.
I hope everyone is able to find a provider that respects and supports their decisions. Set yourself up for the best birth possible.
(Sorry not sorry I recycled last years post)
