Reflect Art Gallery spotlight #1✨
What do you hope people take away from viewing your piece?
“Slow Burn is the visual representation of the slow and gradual descent into an abusive relationship, depicting my personal experiences with physical, and physiological abuse that left me a shell of who I once was. As layers of wax drip and harden over the painted words–a mix of both sweet and malignant words that was said to me over the course of the relationship–this piece captures the deceptive warmth of the beginning, the slow erosion of boundaries and trust, and the paralyzing realization of entrapment when escape felt impossible. Abuse is rarely immediate; it creeps in, disguised as care, as love, as something familiar. Slow Burn is a testament to that creeping destruction, the disfigurement of reality, and an eventual suffocation of the self.”
