Please join us tonight for "All Things Senior" our weekly speaker series at 6 p.m. Tonight we will host TARCOG Senior Ombudsman, Alicia Roshelle Thomas-Howard.
Alicia is a native of Chicago IL. She has served the geriatric population within Northern Alabama for 28 years.
Ms. Howard received her bachelor’s degree in social work at Oakwood University in 1999 and received her master’s degree in social work from Alabama A&M University in 2009.
Career History
• Worked as a Social Service Director in two Long-term care facilities in Huntsville, Alabama
• Served as an Educator and Program Liaison for a local home health agency
• Served as a case manager for Home and Community Based Service Program (Medicaid Waiver).
• Currently serve as the Lead Community Long-Term Care Ombudsman for 5 counties within the Northeast Region in Alabama
• Served as Secretary for the State of Alabama Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program Advisory Council from 2013-2014
• Currently serving as a board member of the Alabama Coalition for Culture Change.
Recent accomplishment: Recognized by The Alabama Department of Senior Services and won “Ombudsman of the Year” in January 2025
Alicia Howard has served as a volunteer for the Crisis services of North Alabama She has also served as a co-facilitator for a support group for survivors of Domestic Violence and a Sexual Assault Responder for the SANE program and a HELP line Counselor for the Crisis Services of North Alabama.
Alicia Thomas-Howard is married to Paul K. Howard of Fort Lauderdale FL. She has 4 children, Sha’ul Yeshurun Howard, Nazir Israel Howard and two stepchildren Raven Elijah Howard and Ashely Taylor Howard who live in Atlanta, Georgia.
“I’ve always had a burning desire to advocate on behalf of all vulnerable persons in particularly the aging, and individuals living in long-term care facilities which I’ve worked with for approximately 26 years. My mission is to continue to due my due diligence in protecting the welfare and rights of all individuals living in long-term care facilities and to assure that they receive fair treatment and the quality care that they deserve”.
