On February 28th, 1898, UnityPoint Health – Meriter (then Madison General Hospital) opened our doors. 128 years later, we look a little different, but it's still our people who make this a special place.

Few embody that more than Mary, our Environmental Services Supervisor, who started as a Housekeeper in 1983. Over 43 years at Meriter, Mary has grown with M through new facilities, new partnerships, new electronic systems and countless new faces.

"You know that feeling when you go home at night and you see the front porch light on?" Mary says. "That's kind of how I feel when I walk in. This is my home."

Mary was here when Madison General and Madison Methodist merged in 1987 to form Meriter Hospital, and has worked her way up through every role in her department to become the Environmental Services Supervisor she is today.

After 43 years, the thing that's kept her here is simple:

"The people," Mary says. "You walk in the door and people greet you. I feel like we're really part of the team."

Our team is the heart of our 128-year legacy. Here's to many more years, and to the people like Mary who make it worth celebrating.
