Taylor is an Addiction Care Coordinator at UnityPoint Health – Meriter, working with patients in the hospital who are facing challenges with alcohol or substance use. For many, these struggles can affect every aspect of life – health, relationships, work and emotional well-being. But recovery is possible – and it starts with connection.

Taylor connects patients with resources like NewStart, Meriter’s comprehensive outpatient treatment program. While “treatment” can sound intimidating, NewStart is different. It’s a safe, welcoming place where people are met with kindness, compassion and zero judgement.

NewStart takes a compassionate, evidence-based approach to care, helping each person build the tools and support networks they need for long-term recovery. The results are life changing. Taylor has personally seen how quickly substance use can impact a family, but has also seen the incredible strength and growth that come from support, love and expert care.

“Struggling doesn’t make you weak, it makes you human,” Taylor said. “If you or someone you know is struggling, please know there is hope, and all of us at NewStart are here to help.”
