I am continuously amazed by the intelligence that exists within our bodies. From the way that we visibly move and shape shift, but equally as so by the things we cannot see with our eyes or even sense consciously. We are amazing.⁣

I love sharing complex and often confusing topics by making them digestible experiences we can feel. This was the motivation behind the Body Intelligence Series I created. We come together to learn and explore the amazing brilliance that is our bodies and how they move.⁣

The next in the series is all about BREATH. ⁣

We’ll explore⁣
* The rhythmic glide of the respiratory diaphragm⁣
* The connections with the core and pelvic floor⁣
* The brilliance of breath and the nervous system⁣
* Breath and movement practices that connect you with your organic breath⁣

In a quiet little barn in Mount Horeb, something extraordinary unfolded. Last year’s transformational journey left us speechless. We witnessed brave hearts ready to seen and shared; uncovering depths of honesty balanced with understanding and compassion. Each and every person held space for themselves and each other. ⁣

and I have found ourselves called to once again return to the rolling hills and beautiful red barn where the light danced through the cracks as the journey evolved. ⁣

About damn time! ⁣

I have been in a thick and heavy brain fog for many months now. My focus and attention have been comparable to that of a gnat. I have felt like a dull version of myself. I haven’t been able to figure it out and then a light bulb went off that last time I refilled my hormone replacement prescription. For those that relate, say it with me “f’n hormones”. ⁣

I made a change about 2 weeks ago and today is the first day in a very long time I was able to sit and focus on “boss work” for more than 30 minutes. Yay! ⁣

Guess what this dynamic duo is up to?! The incredible and I are retreat dreaming. We are putting our beautiful brains t...

Your voice matters. Showing up and being seen and seeing others matters. Sharing yourself with the world matters. ⁣

Last Thursday a new friend who is a recording engineer asked if he could record a chant I share at the end of my yoga class. He shared with me that the first time he heard me sing at the end of a class was like getting a hug. I never expected to resonate with others. But it seems when I step through the fear that wants me to stay small and quiet, ripples happen not only in me but in others.⁣

I spent all of my childhood and much of my adult life tip toe-ing through this dance with fear and anxiety. I said once that I feel like I’m always dipping my toe in the water to test the temperature, but rarely jumping in. But when I do, I go for it; but there’s this little voice that says, “but don’t make a big splash and rock the boat”.⁣

Still learning how to swim and make waves (or ripples) because the world needs us cycle breakers to do so. ⁣

Own your truth, your experiences, and share your gifts. You never know how far that ripple may travel. ⁣

The video:⁣
Rhythmic and sensory rich experience rotation while yours arms (your reach) and your gaze move through the space around you. Let your hands connect on your body. For added fun, add your own sounds to it! Fill up your space, make contact, breath, move. Your nervous system and your spine will thank you.⁣

“Breathe into your belly”⁣

For people with pelvic pain, chronic pain, paradoxical breathing (coordination issue with breathing where someone’s breath is in a reverse pattern - common with early childhood or developmental trauma), anxiety, and PTSD it is not the most effective approach or cue. ⁣

When I cue this differently when I’m teaching or during a therapy session, people often have lots of quesitons because they hear it so often and have been told that’s the way they should do it. That’s ok. It’s not wrong, but…⁣

What I often see is people tend to push out their belly when they respond to that cue. This in turn increases the pressure into the pelvic floor and bypasses the expansion of our center in the 360 degrees that is optimal for saying hello to parasympathetic nervous system and for coordination of breath.⁣

We want our diaphragm to move well for ⁣
- Pelvic floor health⁣
- Digestion⁣
- Elimination (p**p and pee)⁣
- Rest and relaxation⁣
- Nervous System Regulation ⁣
- Vagal tone (your vagus nerve innervates a portion of your diaphragm along with where your esophagus and down into your gut)⁣
And much more!⁣

Accessing our orienting response is a great way to down regulate our nervous system. Down regulation is key for those living with chronic pain.⁣

I love this strategy in public spaces, before-after transitions (place or activity). ⁣

Priming our nervous system with little nuggets during our day is more valuable than using resources only in times of challenge. This is one way we can be proactive and interrupt the cycle of stress and pain. Think of it this way…we are priming the nervous system to orient or look for safety vs priming it to consistently detect threat. We need balance between both.⁣

You can orient to different things, but some ideas are colors, shapes, textures. ⁣

If your interested in learning more about chronic pain supports, there’s 1 day left to register for Saturday’s workshop Synergos Counseling and Wellness. DM me if your interested.⁣
