Women In Transition
Annual Report for 2025
Women In Transition, Inc., provides residential and social services to adult women of Dane County who are experiencing severe and persistent mental illness. A continuum of services is offered ranging from a 24 hour staffed group home and a supported apartment building. The residential facility is licensed as a Community Based Residential Facility by the
State of Wisconsin. The 24 hour staffed residential facility is called the Halfway House and is a supportive structured living experience that assists women in achieving their greatest capacity for independent living. The apartment building is called the Corner House and it provides an apartment living experience to assist women in re-entering independent community living. Whether a woman lives in the Halfway House or Corner House each woman moves toward independence at an appropriate pace by using the recovery tools they need to succeed in the community. The programs provide comprehensive case management services, emotional support and instruction in practical living skills. The family style ambiance present in both buildings is designed to nurture self-esteem and promote a healthy life style. Women In Transition continues to move forward in promoting cultural competence and diversity along with a focus on consumer centered recovery practices. During the year 2025, fifteen women were served in the Halfway House. Nine women were admitted into the program and six women were discharged. Of the six discharges: one woman transferred to a higher level of care, one woman transferred to hospice; two women discharged to live with friends or family, and two women discharged to an unknown setting. The average length of stay in the Halfway House for the year 2025 was 6 months. Along with the treatment components of WIT a strong emphasis is placed on social and recreational development. This can occur individually or within a group setting. Spontaneous play, fun and laughter are encouraged. Bingo, board and card games are played weekly. Planned cultural and recreational events occur throughout the year. Holiday and seasonal activities are scheduled, routine social outings and weekly craft activities. Physical fitness is stressed and each woman is invited to participate in some type of physical activity. The Social Work staff provides 1:1 social outings on a planned basis. Women In Transition is funded primarily through a purchase of service contract with Dane County Department of Human Services. The contracted amount in 2025 was $610,967.00. Cost of care revenue is collected based on ability to pay. Consumer revenues collected are remitted to the Dane County Department of Human Services to offset the contract costs. 2025 consumer revenue was $109,549.56. Women In Transition participated in the County’s Crisis Stabilization service program and generated Medicaid revenues in the amount of $117,178.44. Revenue from the State’s Community Recovery Services program generated $60,687.65. These funds are earned and credited toward our contract dollars with Dane County. Community Shares revenue and individual donations totaled $22,296. These funds are used to offset annual maintenance and operating costs. Supporters of Women In Transition used our Amazon wish list and monetary donations to ensure a holiday gift for each woman in the program. The Executive Director is Gabby Richardson
