We had the pleasure of discovering this heartfelt note from one of our recently discharged patients.
Moments like these remind us why we do what we do — to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we care for.

Below is the note they left behind:

I came to you a sloth
In pain, in endless darkness
Fatigued, no desire to desire
A candle shone in my dungeon,
And a hand appeared and beckoned.
“Can you raise one finger?”
“Will you turn your head?”
“We see you. You are safe.”

I make an effort
Not for me, but to honor yours
Days pass, painlessness; I take a meal
The candles grow and strengthen
I light some of my own.
I find wonder in my body
My legs are now my friends; we celebrate
The lotus bud appears atop the swamp
Full blossom awaits its fulness
You have gifted me myself.
