"Understanding Commercial To***co Use Patterns and Determinants in Sexual and Gender Minority Youth"
Date: December 3, 2021 at 12 pm EST
Sexual and gender minority (SGM) individuals are disproportionately affected by commercial to***co use and associated health conditions. Experiencing discrimination based on sexual orientation and/or gender identity appears to be a major reason for this disparity. Research, however, on the prevalence and effects of commercial to***co use in SGM youth is limited. Adolescence and young adulthood are developmental periods that pose the greatest risk for commercial to***co initiation and progression and therefore present an important period for prevention efforts to reduce initiation and the development of dependence among SGM young people. In this webinar, we will present recent findings demonstrating the importance of understanding SGM youth commercial to***co use and prevention. Webinar speakers are Drs. Joanne Patterson, Tres Hinds, and Evan Krueger. Dr. Andy Tan will serve as a discussant.
