When Children Turn Away

It hurts when your grown children no longer want to connect.
For the past ten years, mine have barely called—only a quick phone call on my birthday.

At first, I was devastated. I replayed every conversation, blamed myself, and let the silence consume me. But after reading Freud, reflecting deeply, and facing some hard truths, I finally began to live differently.

🌿 Time for Myself

Someone once said: “Children are like a house you’ll never live in: you build it for years, it costs you nerves and money… and in the end, they leave.”

And they should.
I don’t regret a single moment spent raising my kids. But waiting, expecting, and clinging drained me like a drought waiting for rain.

One morning, I woke up and realized: nobody cared how I spent the day. Nobody asked. That emptiness felt like sinking in deep water. But instead of drowning, I went back to something I had abandoned years ago—my workshop. I spent hours building airplane wings for a model. Time disappeared. And that’s when it hit me: I still have myself, and my time is mine.

🌊 Children Must Leave

In nature, grown offspring always leave. If they don’t, growth stops. Parents and children live by different rhythms:

Children say: “Let us discover life on our own.”

Parents reply: “We already know—let us teach you.”

But if parents win, children never truly grow up. Love means letting them go, even if it hurts.

🌸 Learning to Live Alone

Living with yourself is the hardest lesson. At first, the silence is unbearable—you crave calls, visits, distractions. But Freud was right: the one who finds meaning only in others is destined for misery. The one who finds peace within himself is truly free.

I was terrified of aging alone. But when I discovered joy in solitude—when I could fill my own time with passion—the fear vanished.

A loner isn’t someone without friends. A loner is someone who cannot stand being with himself.

I no longer fear being alone.
I have my time, my passions, my peace. And when the phone does ring, I can answer with love—without expectation.

Tom Butts, a vegan athlete and strength coach, recently won a Britain’s Strongest Man title.

Butts took first place in the under 90kg category at the Official Strongman British Championships earlier this year. The competition is a common route for athletes to gain entry to larger, international competitions, which makes Butts Britain’s strongest man in his category.

Our age is just a number, right?

A month before her passing in 2017, Louise L. Hay wrote something that still resonates deeply:

“I’ll be turning 90 this Saturday. My younger years were filled with fear, but now my days are filled with trust and confidence.

My life didn’t really start to make sense until my mid-40s. At 50, I began writing—on a very small scale. My first year, I earned just \$42. At 55, I ventured into the world of computers, which terrified me, but I took classes and overcame my fears. Today, I own three computers and travel everywhere with my iPad and iPhone. At 60, I planted my first garden. Around that time, I joined kids’ art classes and started painting. In my 70s and 80s, I became even more creative, and my life just kept getting richer and more fulfilling.

I still write, give talks, and teach by example. I’m always reading, learning, and growing. I run a successful publishing company and two nonprofits. I’m an avid organic gardener and grow most of my own food. I love people and parties, have many loving friends, and have traveled the world. I still paint and take classes. My life has become a treasure trove of experiences.

I want to encourage you to consciously shape your later years and realize that they can be the most rewarding chapter of your life. Your future is always bright, no matter your age. Let these years become your treasure years.”

With love,
Louise Hay

“Movement toward greater health is only possible because of now, because of where we are. Now is the platform of all further possibilities.

So looking closely at our symptoms and our feelings about them and then coming to accept them as they are is of utmost importance.”

Vegan cyclist Emily Ehrlich won the women’s elite time trial race at the 2025 USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships earlier this month.

Ehrlich is one of the main riders for Virginia’s Blue Ridge Twenty 28, the US’s premier women’s cycling team, and her victory makes her the ITT National Champion for 2025.

The National Championships’ annual time trial event sees riders race to complete the relatively flat, out-and-back, 20.1-mile route the fastest. Ehrlich took first place on May 21 with a time of 43 minutes and four seconds and an average pace of 28 miles per hour.

Sometimes I feel envy for men and their muscles. I work hard at having tone, and in no way do I want to replicate what you see here. I simply want to be healthy. I actually love weightlifting, which I have been doing for 25 years. No regrets. Just gratitude for the love I feel for taking care of my body-temple.

Consistency gets results, as proven by vegan body builder Torre Washington ❤️

This man made difference in my life at a very young age. He made me stop and think and consider how the world could be different. I have been contemplating that thought ever since, attempting to make the best decisions that I could along the way. I haven’t always been perfect, far from it, but I continue to try hard to be the positive change I want to see in the world.

Thank you to John Robbins for being the change that inspired me. May you rest in peace, John. I will miss you.

Remembering John Robbins ~ From Dr. Scott Stoll and The Plantrician Project

With deep respect and profound gratitude, we honor the extraordinary life and legacy of John Robbins—a man whose unshakable integrity, visionary leadership, and boundless compassion transformed the world in ways that words can scarcely capture.

John lived every moment with intention and purpose, fueled by a courageous commitment to truth, justice, and the wellbeing of all life. His voice, unwavering and clear, was a beacon of hope that illuminated a path forward toward a more compassionate, conscious, and sustainable world.

Through his passionate leadership and visionary work, John awakened hearts, inspired movements, and empowered millions to live in alignment with their deepest values. He challenged convention not for the sake of disruption, but for the sake of healing—of people, animals, and the planet we call home.

Though he will be deeply missed, John's legacy is not a memory—it is a living force. It endures in the countless lives he touched, the communities he helped build, and the unstoppable ripple of transformation that he set in motion.

From all of us at The Plantrician Project and from me personally, thank you, John, for the gift of your life. You showed us what is possible when one person lives with courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to a better future.

A life well lived. A legacy that lives on.
