Did you know about our story? Can you believe it all started in a small dental office.
In the early 1980s Dr. Charles Caplan, was a practicing dentist who spent long hours hunched over patients.
Like so many professionals doing detail work, he was feeling the strain, in his eyes, neck, and back.
So he built a solution for himself: a set of magnifying eyeglasses that gave him sharp detail without having to lean in.
They worked so well, he started sharing them with other dentists, and eventually launched Orascoptic, the first company to bring this kind of magnification to dentistry.
Before long, magnification became standard across the profession.
But something unexpected happened: patients started noticing the glasses.
Jewelers, quilters, needleworkers, and artists all asking: “Where can I get something like that for my work?”
So in 2009, we launched CraftOptics, designed specifically for artists and makers.
We worked directly with creators to understand the unique challenges of close-up, detail-focused work.
From that, we developed a system that brings everything into clear focus, with proper posture and lighting, so artists could work longer, better, and without eye or neck pain.
Since then, we’ve helped thousands of artists around the world do what they love.
