Such a beautiful autumn! We have been moving into winter and it is time to prepare for the winter solstice. As we bundle up and and find a cozy spot, remember that this is a natural time for introspection and rest. The Kidneys are the yin organs of winter and the bladder is the yang organ. They are susceptible to cold and damp weather. Protect them against the elements but make sure to get your Vitamin D with supplements/food and by trying to find a protected sunny spot when available. Fear and depression can also thrive during this time. We all know the political, social and pandemic environments we live in are challenging this year, which means it is even more important to take care of ourselves physically, emotionally and spiritually. Tai ji and Qi gong are wonderful practices that can assist us in our wellness journey everyday. Eating bone broths, foods dark in color, and cooking our food longer at lower temps with less water will help infuse warmth into our food and therefore deeper into the body. Find activities to do at home such as taking an online class, starting a new hobby, reading a good book, writing in a journal or trying a new recipe.
