To my patients, past and present:
After 31 years practicing here in Madison, I have decided to “hang up my scalpel”. It doesn’t seem like three decades ago that I opened my practice as the “new kid on the block”, but I think the time has come for me to start the third chapter of my life. I would like to spend more time volunteering, perhaps more time with my favorite hobbies (flying, reading), more time with my grand-sons, a little more traveling, and perhaps find a new passion.
I have discovered that closing a surgical practice is not as easy as opening one. I will miss being able to care for my patients and occasionally change a life or two. I will miss the joy and challenges of surgery, and I will especially miss the close relationships I have enjoyed with my staff.
While I will no longer be operating after the end of June, I will be keeping the office open until the end of September on a limited basis. After that time, I would recommend anyone needing care to contact Dr. Jeffrey Larson, an excellent plastic surgeon from the University of Wisconsin.
Thank you,
Dr. Thomas H. Bartell
