Sara McCoy, MD, PhD, Rheumatology, and Jacques Galipeau, MD, Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care, are the driving forces behind a novel cell therapy—the only of its kind in the US—that was just awarded Fast Track designation from the FDA. The Advanced Cell Therapy is designed to treat dry mouth caused by Sjögren’s disease.

A new study co-led by Nicole Rogus-Pulia, PhD, associate professor and Linda Banov and Howard Stern Faculty Fellow in Dysphagia, Geriatrics and Gerontology, indicates that only 1 in 4 older adults hospitalized for pneumonia receives any evaluation for a swallowing dysfunction known as dysphagia.
