After 40 Years, a Fond Farewell 💛

It’s with full hearts that we share the news: Hancock Center for Creative Arts Therapies is closing.

For four decades, we’ve had the honor of providing creative arts therapy—especially dance/movement therapy—to individuals, families, and communities across Madison. Together, we’ve created space for healing, expression, and connection through the power of movement.

To everyone who trusted us with your stories, supported our work, partnered with us in schools and beyond, or simply believed in the power of creativity to heal—thank you.

Though our doors are closing, the spirit of Hancock Center lives on in every step taken toward wholeness.

💬 We invite you to share your memories, reflections, and well-wishes in the comments. Your stories are a part of our legacy.

With deep gratitude,
—The Hancock Center Team

In this excerpt from KnowTime number 94, ”Dance, Movement Therapy and Wellness, ft Swarali Karulkar” (https://youtu.be/Ae0ICcGv7ps?feature=shared), host Shalaj Lavania asks what can he do with his stress, nervousness and anxiety in the moment. The guest, movement therapist Karulkar, gives a prescriptive technique for bringing awareness into his body and how to move to release that emotional energy. This is a way to achieve relief and a state of openness that facilitates receiving compassion and joy and embodying health. She explains that for this exercise they’re not trying to resolve all of his problems, for instance, but to gain insight into how the body works naturally and to learn to work with our emotional energies to release stress and anxiety and prevent the buildup of worsening mental states like mood disorders. Try it! Share it with all the men in your life.

Real strength is vulnerability. Break the stigma - men’s mental health is in crisis because too many men are constricted by toxic norms. Ashamed, isolated, afraid, burdened and stressed. It’s time to connect and reach out. Men need support too.
