ECMO is one of the most complex medical treatments available in the ICU environment.

Learning cognitive skills is essential and often completed through didactic training. Building on that knowledge with technical, nontechnical and behavioral skills through simulation is equally important.

When an ECMO team demonstrates competency and excellence through simulation, the following have been found:
✅ Reduced ECMO deployment time in ECPR
✅ Improves time to completion in technical skills
✅ Improves behavior markers
✅ Improves communication among the team
✅ Helps verify and assess knowledge and skills
✅ Allows the team to practice in a “safe” simulation environment where human life is not at stake.
