✨ Understanding Heel Spurs ✨

Heel spurs are bony growths that form on the underside of your heel bone, often caused by long-term strain on foot muscles and ligaments. They’re commonly linked to plantar fasciitis and can cause:

🔹 Sharp heel pain (especially with first steps in the morning)
🔹 Tenderness and swelling
🔹 Pain during walking, running, or standing

Common Causes:
👣 Repetitive stress or overuse
👟 Poorly fitted or worn-out shoes
⚖️ Excess weight adding pressure to heels

If left untreated, heel spurs can worsen and affect your daily movement.

Our Story

Da Vinci Foot and Ankle is pleased to announce the opening of their new office in Madison, GA, offering patients 2 full time Board Certified Foot & Ankle surgeons. Dr. Allison Menke and Dr. Christopher Menke bring years of podiatric experience to the area including their elective and reconstructive surgical expertise. Within the office they treat all foot and ankle ailments big or small, including but not limited to arthritis, heel pain, ingrown toenails, tendonitis, sprains, fractures, custom orthotics, etc.

As podiatric surgeons, Dr. Christopher Menke and Dr. Allison Menke are both specialists that differ from other doctors who’ve received limited training in foot and ankle medicine. After undergraduate school, both physicians invested 4 years at the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. There, the education rivaled that of a typical medical school, however, their curriculum focused heavily on the foot, ankle, and leg. Upon graduation, both doctors obtained the title DPM (Doctor of Podiatric Medicine) and then they continued their training by investing an additional 3 years in one of the country’s most rigorous surgical residencies. They graduated from the prestigious Northlake/DeKalb Medical Residency program (formally associated with Emory University) with extensive knowledge in forefoot and rearfoot reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Allison Menke is Board Certified in Forefoot Surgery and Board Qualified in Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery, while Dr. Christopher Menke is Double Board Certified in both Forefoot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery. Through their affiliation with the Podiatry Institute, they have both participated in the lecture circuit nationwide and in teaching cadaver surgical skill courses to fellow podiatric surgeons and residents. Additionally, both physicians are published surgeons. Dr. Allison Menke is a published author in two chapters of the Fourth Edition of McGlamry’s Comprehensive Textbook of Foot and Ankle Surgery, the authoritative and definitive textbook of foot and ankle surgeons. Additionally, Dr. Allison Menke has written multiple chapters in the annual Podiatry Update textbooks. Dr. Christopher Menke is published in multiple Podiatry Institute textbooks as well, and he has three journal articles published in The Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery, the authoritative journal of foot and ankle surgery. Additionally, Dr. Christopher Menke was one of the contributing authors of the surgical procedures manual, Internal Fixation of the Foot & Ankle: Instructional Course Workbook.

Both physicians participate in surgical medical mission trips to the Dominican Republic, providing care to the less fortunate through their nonprofit, Surgeons of Service. Additionally, they have teamed up with many area schools to coordinate shoe drives for kids in need both locally and globally!
