Tergar Madison

Tergar Madison Tergar Madison holds weekly drop-in meditation groups, now online, as well as periodic retreats, workshops, and classes. Feel free to drop in anytime!

The mission of the Tergar Meditation Community is to make the ancient practice of meditation accessible to the modern world. For centuries, the practice of meditation has been used by countless individuals to transform suffering into joy and confusion into wisdom. Tergar meditation and study programs are designed to facilitate this transformation. Under the guidance of Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, a remarkable teacher celebrated for his ability to make the practice of meditation accessible to people of all backgrounds, the Tergar community of meditation centers and practice groups provides a comprehensive course of meditation training and study, with programs for Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike. Each session short presentations on the basics of meditation practice, guided meditations, and group discussion. The group is offered on a donation-basis and is open to all. If you are new to meditation and would like to learn more, or if you are a seasoned practitioner and would like to deepen your practice, please join us as we explore the practice of mindfulness.

This photo brings back so many memories. It’s from one of the very first retreats we ever held with Mingyur Rinpoche at St. John’s in Minnesota—back when Tergar was just getting off the ground.

In the photo are my dear friends and colleagues Edwin and Myoshin Kelley and Tim Olmsted. The four of us were Tergar’s first instructors, helping to bring Rinpoche’s vision to life.

Looking back, those early days were filled with so much energy, joy, and a sense of possibility. And through it all, the friendships we built became something even more precious than the work itself.
Edwin, Myoshin, and Tim feel closer than family to me. It’s hard to put into words how much love and admiration I have for them.

I’ll be forever grateful to walk this path alongside such extraordinary human beings.

What an inspiring day! We celebrated with the Tergar community at Welcome Celebration (Festa de Boas-vindas) in Podentes, Portugal, on August 16. Our Executive Director, Justin Kelley, shared a special presentation on Tergar Schools, highlighting our mission to cultivate wisdom and compassion through education. With a community so dedicated to this vision, we feel more hopeful than ever. 🌿💛

Community, our blessing.

“We could follow the path of awakening by ourselves, but without community, we would miss so many opportunities to learn and grow, and to support others in doing the same … community brings us back to what is truly meaningful.” - Mingyur Rinpoche

“This is the great paradox of the Buddhist path: that we practice in order to know what we already are, therefore attaining nothing, getting nothing, going nowhere. We seek to uncover what has always been there.”

– Mingyur Rinpoche
