May is Maternal Mental Health month, and I had the opportunity to attend the annual MSPQC conference in late April. It was incredible to be able to meet with professionals from around Mississippi to learn, discuss, and advocate for maternal healthcare progress in Mississippi. We loved hearing from Jen Hamilton about advocating for patients and giving them a voice in their treatment. The experiences we have in pregnancy and delivery can shape our experience of the postpartum period. An empowering birthing experience can reduce the rates of postpartum mood disorders! I will always strive to learn more and engage in these conversations in order to improve my quality of care and the outcomes for my clients in the perinatal period and beyond.
