Welcome to Madison Learning Center. Madison Learning Center (MLC) is a non-profit Center of quality child care and education. The mission of MLC is to provide a year-round safe, supervised environment for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. Madison Learning Center offers fulltime care for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old and school age care before and after school, school breaks, and summer care. Madison Learning Center has no religious affiliation. Madison Learning Center’s vision is to be nationally recognized as an outstanding childcare Center.
History and Funding - Madison Learning Center opened in 2014; MLC is not affiliated with any aspect of the former childcare which was held in the same building. Madison Learning started fresh with a brand-new program. MLC offers childcare as well as other learning programs. MLC is user fee based and accepts subsidy from the Department of Social Services.
Non-Profit Organization - Madison Learning Center is a non-profit organization. Non-profit organizations are dedicated to furthering a particular social cause or advocating for a shared point of view. In our case, we are dedicated to providing licensed-quality child care and education to the local families of Madison County.
Non-profit organizations fulfill their missions by reinvesting the proceeds earned rather than distributing the profits to company leadership. At MLC we reinvest what would otherwise be our profits back into the community. We do this by keeping our tuition costs low and granting scholarships or tuition assistance to families who are not eligible for state-funded assistance.
Non-profits like MLC are not driven by generating profit, but we must produce enough income to fulfill our mission and remain financially stable. We can raise money in different ways such as income from programs or grants, individual or foundation donations, providing services such as child care, and through fundraising events such as Give Local Piedmont.
Program Information - Our childcare program is licensed by the Department of Social Services and includes full day childcare services year-round. MLC serves children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. Children from infancy to five years old can be enrolled in our all day program. MLC also offers before and after school care for school age children up to age twelve. In addition, we offer summer and school closing childcare services for children ages 5-12 years old. All programs are conducted on a non-discriminatory basis with regard to race, color, religion, national origin, s*x, or disability. Children are placed in age appropriate classrooms. MLC uses the birthday requirement set by Virginia Public Schools for kindergarten eligibility. The date used is September 30. Children must be 5 years old by September 30 of the year they enter kindergarten.
Curriculum - The daily curriculum at MLC is based on children’s interest and developmental needs. This curriculum allows staff to derive lesson plans and activities from children’s interests. Projects conducted in the classroom are child initiated and teacher guided. In addition, Kindergarten Readiness skills are taught in our Pre-K classrooms.
