“I stopped trying to force a system that could not be forced. I stopped sliding over the restriction. I slowed down and waited for the restrictions to release. I let the inherent motions of the mind-body (unwinding) to occur, and allowed the patients to express their thoughts, insights emotions and memories. The results and potential for healing moved into a consistency and a higher dimension that was significant.” John F. Barnes, describing his evolving approach to Myofascial Release.

Picosecond

What is a Picosecond?

Quantum Physics tells us that we blink in and out of existence every one trillionth of a second (Picosecond)! Quantum Physics is strange and also fascinating. Traditional therapy chose to look at classical Neutonian Physics while completely ignoring Quantum Physics.

I became aware of birefringence and asked Dr. Carol Davis and Dr. James Oschman, two of the finest scientists in our country for their insights. Both have advanced knowledge and understanding of the fascial system. They have written important books that I highly recommend to better understand the liquid crystalline nature of who we naturally are— Complementary Therapies in Rehabilitation: Holistic Approaches for Prevention and Wellness, by Carol M. Davis DPT EdD MS FAPTA and Energy Medicine in Therapeutics and Human Performance, by James L. Oschman PhD.

Carol and Dr. Oschman were kind enough to provide us with some very interesting information about how light may be conducted through the fluidity of the ground substance of the fascial system via the process of birefringence. I am currently writing an article on Myofascial Rebounding for an upcoming issue of Massage Today and I wanted to share with you some fascinating excerpts from my article.

The revered scientist, Dr. Mae-Wan Ho in her article Super-Conducting Liquid Crystalline Water Aligned with Collagen Fibres in the Fasciae… stated that water is ‘hardly recognized in the conventional biochemical community,” instead her years of research has shown that water is the dynamo of life!

She states that “the liquid crystalline nature of the fascial system extends without interruption throughout its extracellular matrix to the interior of every single cell.”

We are all brought up to believe there are three phases of water, ice, fluid and v***r, however, recent discoveries by one of the world’s leading experts in fluid dynamics, Dr. Gerald Pollack has discovered a fourth phase of water! Instead of H20 it is called structured water or H302. This is also called the exclusion zone, which is where the fascial system is capable of acting like a fiber-optic.

A phenomenon occurs called birefringence at the cellular level which is an optical reflection carrying photons depending upon the polarization and propagation of light. Birefringent crystals are liquid crystals creating electro polarization from head to toe. So, we are basically two-thirds water, but it is not water as we think of it.

For over one hundred years in school, the fascial system has been taught that it is an insulator, which means it cannot conduct energy or information. In fact, the ground substance of the fascial system carries a vast amount of information and energy to every one of the trillions of cells of the body. This is so important and everyone is ignoring this!

The liquid crystalline nature of structured water has both the characteristics of solid and fluid and is capable of change. H302 plays an important role for our function at the cellular level where it boosts the power of the electrons of mitochondria, the power house of our cells. So Myofascial Release has everything to do with the healthy functioning of our physiology and life itself!

Love,

John

Peace be with you.

Peace be with you.

A number of people asked about the massive statue that accompanied John’s recent post on Picoseconds.

Apennine Colossus

This epic colossus, half man, half mountain, was sculpted in 1579 by renowned Italian sculptor Giambologna as a symbol of Italy’s rugged Apennine mountains just north of Florence Italy.

Why don’t you all soften your visual focus and soften your body as you slow your breathing. Then ask yourself, “What does this beautiful sculpture symbolize to me?” Please consider sharing your insights with us.

Thank you for continued interest in Myofascial Release!

Quick fix and the glorification of busy.

I get asked about cortisone injections a lot. An injection may provide temporary relief though it will merely mask symptoms, not treat the root cause. In my experience, the injections confuse important pain signals making it harder to resolve the issues. This article suggests cortisone injections can do more harm than good.

Cortisone injections for hip and knee pain lead to more complications than previously thought, research has found.

I'm here to break down a common misconception about Myofascial Release: "It's Painful"
🙅‍♀️FALSE🙅‍♂️
👉If your therapist is causing you pain (or bruising), they're using too much pressure. While there is occasional "therapeutic pain", John Barnes' Myofascial Release will never injure. The application of JFB-MFR is quite gentle, actually.
👉John Barnes' Myofascial Release Approach is as "hard" as it needs to be and as "soft" as it can be, with varying amounts of pressure in-between.
👉Do we utilize deep tissue mobilization techniques? Absolutely. When necessary and appropriate.
👉Is that all MFR encompasses? Absolutely not.
👉The mentality of 'no pain, no gain' is a bit old school. When it comes to fascia you cannot make it release by using brute force. (Tissue memory and subconscious holding patterns are much stronger than that.) As JFB-MFR trained therapists, we match the resistance of the body, engaging the fascial barriers, taking up the slack as the tissue releases and continue waiting at those barriers for a minimum of 5-7 minutes. Every time.
