For more than a decade, the Council has hosted Gallery Night events to celebrate and showcase the work of Wisconsin artists with vision loss who create in a range of media, including acrylic and watercolor paint, pen and ink drawing, digital illustration, fiber arts and woodworking.

Built by Mental Health America of Wisconsin under a grant from DHS for people experiencing mental health and substance use concerns, UpliftWI can be reached at 534-202-5438 daily from noon to midnight, with 24/7 operation expected by the end of the year. The Helen Bader School of Social Welfare and the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment of the Medical College of Wisconsin proudly present the Southeastern Wisconsin Caregiving Symposium on Monday, October 9.

Join fellow healthcare professionals and allied health professionals for an interactive discussion of the needs of family caregivers in diverse populations. Take part in interactive panel discussions involving a variety of representatives examining what creates successful, thriving family caregiving environments.

Create connections and learn as we discuss identifying family caregivers, providing resources at the right time, and working together to provide support in healthcare, government, and community settings.

National Alliance for Caregiving President and CEO Jason Resendez will give the keynote address.

Besides a nationwide caregiver shortage, there is also a shortage of special education teachers. As the school year gets underway, the vast majority of states are reporting a shortage of special education staff, prompting districts to skimp on services and reassign students with disabilities.

42 states and Washington, D.C. have fewer special education teachers than schools need. That’s every state except Arkansas, California, Louisiana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon and Utah.

As the school year gets underway, the vast majority of states are reporting a shortage of special education staff, prompting districts to skimp on services and reassign students with disabilities.

Attend the Institute on Aging Colloquium. It is free and open to the public, and now attracts a full-capacity crowd each year from the campus and community. Local researchers showcase cutting-edge science in diverse aspects of aging through talks and poster exhibits, while many organizations from the community provide a Health and Resource Fair.

The program additionally includes a Keynote Address by an internationally recognized leader on current and critical topics of aging as well as presentation of New Investigator Awards to junior scholars.

There is a new streaming service that focuses on disabilities.

ReelAbilities Stream features 50 movies by and about people with disabilities. The service is an offshoot of the ReelAbilities Film Festival, which has been held in more than 20 cities around the world since originating in New York in 2007. More films are expected to be added regularly.
