This morning’s reading stayed with me:
“Roses and garbage inter-are.
Without a rose, we cannot have garbage;
and without garbage, we cannot have a rose.
The rose and garbage are equally important.”
— Thích Nhất Hạnh, The Other Shore: A New Translation of the Heart Sutra with Commentaries
I looked at this rose on my altar and felt the truth of it.
Nothing in our lives is separate.
The beauty and the difficulty grow from the same ground.
One makes the other possible.
What we often wish we could discard
is sometimes the very compost
that allows our next becoming to bloom.
Today, I’m bowing to the whole of it;
the blossoms and the mess,
the sweetness and the struggle.
👉 What in your life is quietly becoming compost for the next rose?
