Yes, we have a unicorn at Davidson Farms! 🦄

Just kidding! This was part of an outdoor group therapy session that Big Mac decided he was going to take part in (whether they wanted him to or not). The clients made breathing wands to help with nervous system regulation ... and because he stuck his nose in their business, he got the unicorn treatment which helps with emotional regulation! 😂

At the Smith Family Wellness Center, every detail matters when it comes to creating a space where our clients feel safe, supported, and able to heal.

That is why Noah Cazier’s Eagle Scout project means so much to us. Noah took the time to truly understand the purpose of our sensory therapy room, carefully researching what would best meet the needs of the children and families we serve. What he created is not just an addition to the room, it is a tool that will help our clients regulate, engage, and grow.

We are deeply grateful to Noah, along with the scouts, friends, and family who helped bring his vision to life. Because of their efforts, this space will continue to make a lasting impact for so many who walk through our doors.

Fancy joined a therapy activity where the client identified the progress they’ve already made and the steps still ahead before they can return home and reunify with their family.

Together, they talked through the areas the client continues to work on so they can return home in a healthier place.

It’s one example of how intentional therapeutic work helps clients build the tools they need for healing, growth, and successful reunification.

We were honored to host the monthly meeting of the Mental Health Prevention Program, led by State Rep. Marilyn Lands, today in our Isenberg Event Center. There were some great presentations and conversations about how to best serve the youth in our community.

We also shared a brief update on the work happening at our Smith Family Wellness Center and had the opportunity to give attendees a tour of the entire Kids to Love Campus, so they could see firsthand how our programs work together to support children and youth in foster care.

At our Damson Family Barn, Big Mac has been helping teach our clients about the “window of tolerance.”

Each of us has a range where our nervous system feels safe and regulated. When someone gets too close or something feels threatening, we can move into hyperarousal — that fight-or-flight state where panic, fear, or overwhelm take over.

On the other end is hypoarousal — when the mind and body feel shut down, numb, or disconnected.

The window of tolerance is the middle ground — the place where we can manage our emotions, stay present, and actually learn and connect.

In this demonstration, Big Mac is standing right in the window of tolerance (even though, let’s be honest, he tends to live in hypoarousal 😂).

And that’s what we work toward every day — helping our clients recognize where they are, understand what their bodies are telling them, and gently guide themselves back to a place of safety and stability.

We could use a little help at our Smith Family Wellness Center.

When clients come in for therapy, we want them to feel comfortable and cared for from the moment they walk through the door. Having simple snacks available in the waiting area or as a small reward after a hard session may seem like a small thing, but it makes a meaningful difference.

We have put together a short snack wishlist in the comments. If you would like to help support the children, teens, and adults we serve, you can purchase an item and drop it off at the center.

Thank you for helping us create a welcoming space for healing. 💙
