Monroe County Prevention & Wellness Coalition A coalition of community members focusing on substance abuse reduction and crime prevention in Monroe County.

This project is funded under a Grant Contract with the State of Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. The Monroe County Prevention & Wellness Coalition (PWC) is an alliance of organizations and people from all sectors of our community. For over a decade, the PWC has been effective in policy change, prevention programming, increased opportunities for positive health im

pact, and the overall reduction of risky behaviors. Although the priority of the PWC remains primary prevention, our work has had a positive impact throughout the community in many other ways. The PWC has several substances that we address: alcohol (underage use), nicotine, prescription drugs, opioids (illicit) and stimulants, and marijuana/THC/derivatives. Under those areas of focus are several initiatives and programs such as community events like 'Smash the Stigma' Community Water Balloon Fight and the DEA Drug Take Back Day, youth clubs in the schools, overdose prevention training where you learn how to use and receive naloxone, training for businesses, community education, free medication drop boxes, parental education (particularly with our Revealed: A Hidden World trailer), training for teachers/school admin/law enforcement, alcohol awareness training for servers/restaurants that sell alcohol, and youth substance misuse classes within our schools, Boys & Girls Club, and juvenile program. We also work closely with local law enforcement on compliance checks and saturation patrols.

MORE FENTANYL OFF THE STREETS OF MONROE COUNTY

On Monday afternoon, June 20, two suspects were charged and transported to the Monroe County Justice Center following a lengthy investigation into the illegal distribution of Fentanyl.

The investigation led detectives to a residence in the Old Mill Road of the Tellico Plains community.

Investigators executed a warrant which led to the discovery of approximately 5 grams of the deadly drug Fentanyl. Along with the Fentanyl, Investigators also discovered a 9mm handgun and other drug paraphernalia often used in the aid of illegal drug distribution.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office remains dedicated to the “War on Drugs” and will continue to work diligently to rid the Monroe County community of illicit drugs and bring those who
distribute them to justice.

MULTI-AGENCY DRUG BUST

In the evening hours of Monday July 14th, while serving a high risk warrant, one suspect is in custody following a foot pursuit in the area of Turnpike Road.

Agents with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the 10th Judicial District Drug Task Force, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations seized approximately 31 grams of Fentanyl poison, multiple handguns, a large quantity of cash currency and other items believed to have been aided in the resale of Fentanyl within the Monroe County community.

Once again, a job well done by all!!
