Monroe County Prevention & Wellness Coalition

Monroe County Prevention & Wellness Coalition A primary prevention coalition mobilizing our community to reduce substance misuse in Monroe County. Providing education & resources for future generations.

Funded by TDMHSAS. The Monroe County Prevention & Wellness Coalition (PWC) is an alliance of organizations and people from all sectors of our community. For over a decade, the PWC has been effective in policy change, prevention programming, increased opportunities for positive health impact, and the overall reduction of risky behaviors. Although the priority of the PWC remains primary prevention,

our work has had a positive impact throughout the community in many other ways. The PWC has several substances that we address: alcohol (underage use), nicotine, prescription drugs, opioids (illicit) and stimulants, and marijuana/THC/derivatives. Under those areas of focus are several initiatives and programs such as community events like 'Smash the Stigma' Community Water Balloon Fight and the DEA Drug Take Back Day, youth clubs in the schools, overdose prevention training where you learn how to use and receive naloxone, training for businesses, community education, free medication drop boxes, parental education (particularly with our Revealed: A Hidden World trailer), training for teachers/school admin/law enforcement, alcohol awareness training for servers/restaurants that sell alcohol, and youth substance misuse classes within our schools, Boys & Girls Club, and juvenile program. We also work closely with local law enforcement on compliance checks and saturation patrols.

📢 ATTENTION HDCP RETAILERS: Upcoming Licensing Deadline

Retailers currently selling hemp-derived cannabinoid products (HDCPs) in Tennessee: Please be advised of significant regulatory changes.

Under Public Chapter 526, oversight of HDCPs has transferred to the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC).

Key Information for Retailers:

License Expiration: All current HDCP licenses issued by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture will expire on June 30, 2026.

New Requirement: To continue selling these products legally, you must obtain a new TABC HDCP License effective July 1, 2026.

Action Required: Apply early through the TABC to avoid a lapse in compliance, potential fines, or disruptions to tax requirements.

Compliance Reminders:

All purchasers must be 21 years of age or older.

Selling without a valid license is a crime and carries penalties including fines and potential jail time.

For questions regarding the new licensing process, please contact the TABC at tabc.info@tn.gov.

If you know our Coalition Director AT ALL- you know the dangers of Kratom have been her soapbox for the last few years. The PWC, the Prevention Alliance of Tennessee and coalitions across our state have been advocating for a ban!! She received a text yesterday when it passed and was so thankful!! Now let’s get it signed and enacted!

The legislation is named "Matthew Davenport's Law" after a 27-year-old who died from taking kratom along with prescribed, daily medicine. https://www.wate.com/news/tennessee/tennessee-house-passes-bill-to-ban-kratom-named-after-chattanooga-man/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook_WATE_6_On_Your_Side

🏆 We are having a great time at the MoCo Games! It is wonderful to see all three high schools gathered together and celebrating so much local talent.
The PWC booth is set up and ready for our "Please Return On Monday" (PROM) banner signing. We love seeing students from every school stopping by to sign their school's banner and making the pledge to stay safe and look out for one another this prom season.
Keep an eye on our page—we will be posting the photos from the selfie stations soon!

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This month, we recognize the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect. Prevention starts with supporting parents and caregivers. By providing families with the tools and resources they need to navigate challenges, we can ensure every child grows up in a safe, stable, and nurturing environment.
