Youth su***de is rising across Kentucky — and it’s hitting our communities hard. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, alone, or like no one understands what you’re going through… please know you’re not the only one.

📊 Here’s what’s happening in Kentucky:
• Su***de is now the 2nd leading cause of death for youth.
• 1 in 7 high schoolers and nearly 1 in 6 middle schoolers have seriously thought about ending their life.
• In 2023, 30 kids and teens between 8–17 died by su***de right here in our state.
• Rural areas like ours face some of the highest rates in the U.S., which is why MCCC works so hard to expand access to mental health care.

Programs like The Prestonsburg Clubhouse — supported by our TAYLRD grant (Transition Age Youth Launching Realized Dreams) — are part of that effort to reach youth where and when they need it most.

Through TAYLRD, we’re able to offer:

Today, a group of Governor’s Scholars visited Revived Recovery Transitional Care to enhance their education and advocacy skills in support of Residential Substance Abuse Treatment programs. Staff members Howard Keesy and Preston Rhodes provided the students with a guided tour and an informative overview of our treatment services.

This type of experience can have a lasting impact by helping young leaders better understand the challenges of addiction and the value of treatment. By witnessing the work firsthand, these students are more equipped to become informed advocates for recovery and help break the stigma surrounding substance abuse.

Mountain Center for Recovery and Hope
Residential addiction services in Prestonsburg, KY

Located atop StoneCrest Mountain, Mountain Center for Recovery and Hope provides residential addiction treatment in a peaceful setting with expansive views of the surrounding region.

The center offers a person-centered, evidence-based approach to care—including the 12-step model, cognitive behavioral therapy, individual and group counseling, and life-skills development. Residents may also transition to long-term care and receive outpatient aftercare support in their home communities.

Training on "Working with Children Exposed to Domestic Violence and/or Sexual Assault" will be held July 8–9, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Pikeville Hampton Inn, 831 Hambley Blvd, Pikeville, KY. The course repeats both days. Attendees may attend either Tuesday or Wednesday. See the attached flyer for more information.

You're invited to the first meeting of the new "Mountain Mamas" Maternal Health Council — a collaborative space focused on supporting mothers and promoting health across pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
