I wanted to share with you all the email I sent out earlier today...
Dear Yogis,
I want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for the support, encouragement, and kindness you have shown me over the past 10 years. Teaching yoga for Mahomet Parks and Recreation has been a meaningful part of my life, and that is because of each of you.
Thank you to those who took the time to complete the recent survey. Your feedback was thoughtful and appreciated. Several of you shared kind words about your experience, while others mentioned scheduling challenges or a preference for different class formats. This insight was incredibly helpful and l and I have passed it on to those at MPRD.
There is no easy way to say this, but after much reflection, I have made the decision to step away from teaching weekly yoga classes. This was not an easy choice, but one I feel is right at this time due to a mix of personal and professional considerations. If I decide to return, I promise you all will be the first to know.
Please know, from the quiet moments of stillness to the shared laughter and connection in our community, practicing with you has shaped me in ways I never could have imagined. I am truly a better person for having had the privilege to guide and grow alongside you.
Each time we closed class together, I would say the definition of Namaste: “The light and spirit in me acknowledges that same light and spirit in you.” And then I would simplify it as I did when teaching kids' yoga by saying, “You're awesome, I'm awesome, we're all awesome.” That message has always been at the heart of how I teach and connect with others, and I want you to carry that spirit forward, both on and off your mat.
The first quote I ever read when I began teaching at MPRD was from Rachel Brathen, also known as Yoga Girl. I have attached that quote to this email, as it felt like a fitting way to close this chapter with you all. Please know how grateful I am for the years we have spent together. You have created a space filled with grace, strength, and compassion, and I will carry those memories with me always.
Thank you for trusting me, for showing up, and for being a part of something truly special.
As always, have a super snazzy day, and God bless.
Namaste, my friends,
Valerie
