Through the first eight games, junior forward Hannah Martin has quietly become the heartbeat of Mahomet-Seymour’s 5-3 start, impacting games as a scorer, rebounder, and defensive disruptor. While several Bulldogs have delivered big nights, Martin’s consistency across multiple stat lines makes her the clear choice for Mahomet-Seymour Athlete of the Week.
Martin’s breakout performance came in the Turkey Tip-Off win over Prairie Central, where she led the Bulldogs with 12 points, eight rebounds, four steals and two assists in a 53-38 victory that pushed the early-season win streak to three. She followed that up with another all-tournament showing, helping Mahomet-Seymour earn second place at the Bank of Pontiac Turkey Tip-Off and securing a spot on the all-tournament team alongside teammates Penelope Bird and Courtney Fonte.
In the home loss to Metamora, Martin still found ways to contribute, tying for the team lead with nine points and adding a team-best five rebounds in a 50-39 setback that dropped the Bulldogs to 3-2.
When Apollo Conference play opened against Charleston, Martin again set the tone in a 65-28 statement win. She scored 10 points and was a defensive menace, piling up six steals as the Bulldogs snapped a two-game skid and reestablished momentum to move to 4-2.
A few days later against Taylorville, Martin delivered one of her most complete efforts of the season in a 61-37 win that lifted Mahomet-Seymour to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. She finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, and three steals, again filling every column of the box score while the Bulldogs knocked down nine three-pointers as a team.
Even against top-ranked Peoria Notre Dame on December 9, Martin made her presence felt with seven points as the Bulldogs battled the state’s No. 1 team for four quarters.
Mahomet-Seymour girls basketball travels to Mattoon tonight for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off against the Greenwave in a key Apollo Conference matchup.

Brushing your teeth twice a day is one of the simplest ways to protect your health. 🦷✨

Why it matters:

Prevents cavities & tooth decay – Plaque buildup can eat away at your enamel.

Fights gum disease – Healthy gums mean a healthier body overall.

Freshens breath – Nobody wants a “morning dragon” in their mouth! 😁

Supports overall health – Poor oral health is linked to heart disease, diabetes, and more.

Make brushing a daily habit—two minutes, two times a day!

The Mahomet-Seymour Junior High 7th Grade Girls Basketball Team has earned Athlete of the Week honors after an outstanding string of postseason victories that sent the Bulldogs to the IESA State Tournament with a 20–7 record.

The Bulldogs captured the Regional Championship with a commanding 41–22 win over Edison. The game began as a defensive battle, with both teams tied at six after the first quarter, but timely three-point shooting gave Mahomet-Seymour momentum heading into halftime. The Bulldogs connected on four threes in the second quarter to take a 22–8 lead and never looked back.

Anna Franklin led the offensive surge with a season-high 28 points, including four three-pointers, while Kinley Beaumont orchestrated the offense and added 11 points. The victory over Edison came after a 35–18 semifinal win over Danville North Ridge, where Beaumont dropped 16 points and Franklin added 11.

Riding that momentum, the Bulldogs returned on December 3 for the Sectional Championship against a tough Manhattan squad. The first quarter saw both teams locked at 3–3 before the Bulldogs found their rhythm. As Manhattan’s shooters heated up, Jillian Earles stepped up defensively to shut down their top scorer—and even knocked down a three-pointer to help Mahomet-Seymour take a 14–9 halftime lead.

Relentless defense in the third quarter limited Manhattan to just two points, and the Bulldogs held firm in the fourth to seal a 30–18 victory. Franklin led the team once again with 15 points, hitting seven of ten from the free-throw line, while Beaumont contributed 8 points, including two from beyond the arc.

With the sectional crown secured, the Bulldogs advance to face Downers Grove Herrick in the first round of State on Saturday, December 6 at Morton Junior High. A win would send them to the State Semifinals later that day

Holiday treats are everywhere this time of year—peppermint bark, candy canes, chocolates… and while they’re delicious, your enamel might not feel so festive afterward!

When you snack on sugary candies, the bacteria in your mouth feed on the sugar and create acids. Those acids weaken your enamel, leading to sensitivity, decay, and cavities if they stick around too long.

✨ Here’s how to enjoy your favorites without the sugar crash:
• Choose treats you can eat in one sitting instead of snacking all day
• Drink water between bites to rinse away sugar
• Brush 30 minutes after sweets to protect your enamel
• Keep flossing daily to remove sticky candy buildup
