Traditional vs. Functional Thyroid Labs: Why the Range Matters!

Did you know that the biggest difference between traditional medical thyroid labs and functional medical thyroid labs is the reference range?

Traditional labs use a broad range, meaning your results might fall within “normal” limits even if you’re experiencing symptoms.

Functional medicine, on the other hand, uses a much narrower range to identify imbalances before they become full-blown thyroid dysfunction.

Why does this matter?
A young woman’s optimal thyroid levels will differ from those of an older man or woman.
Catching subtle imbalances early can prevent bigger health issues down the road.

If you’ve ever been told your thyroid is “fine” but you still feel off, this might be why!
