Here's the progression of speech sound development in English. These indicate the ages at which your child is expected to be able to produce each sound. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're here to assist you!

Wondering how you can help your child at home?
1. Model good speech: clear sentences making sure to say all of your sounds
2. Repeat (recast) words that your child says incorrectly with the correct pronunciation
3. Read with your child! Books can be a great way to immerse your child with the correct sound.
4. Talk to and play with your child! Gives you more chances to model the correct sound!

Wondering when you should contact a speech-language pathologist?
1. Your child has errors on developmentally-appropriate sounds
2. Your child’s speech sound errors negatively impact their ability to be understood by familiar and unfamiliar listeners
3. Your child omits parts of words (beginning sounds, end sounds, syllables)

✨Meet Sarah Wikum!✨

Sarah holds a Master's Degree in Speech Pathology from the University of Iowa (Go Hawks!) and a Bachelor's Degree in Speech Pathology from Miami University (Go RedHawks!). She has always been deeply passionate about making a positive impact on people's lives and greatly enjoys doing this through speech therapy. Sarah finds great joy in collaborating with other professionals and families to best help her clients. She takes a holistic approach to therapy, addressing speech and language challenges while also considering the child's unique needs, goals, and emotions. Sarah is constantly seeking to learn more to better assist her clients, with her latest endeavors including online courses in trauma-informed care and gestalt language processing.

Fun Fact: Sarah is not just about therapy! She enjoys spending time outside, being with friends and family, going for walks, reading, and training her dog, Hobbs, as well as her boyfriend's dog, Goose. A balanced life makes her a better therapist!
