Repairing infidelity: working with anger.
Q: My partner cheated on me. We made a decision to repair it but I feel so angry. What do I do with this constant mad feeling toward my partner?

A: It is very common and expected that you feel angry. You feel angry because you trusted, and your trust was broken. You feel angry, paradoxically, because you care about your relationships. We work with your anger in sessions. We don’t minimize your anger. We want to acknowledge and validate your anger. We want to make sense of it. Your anger outbursts are justified. You feel angry because you hurt. You feel less valuable and less loved by the person that you once trusted.
At the same time, we don’t want to dump your anger at your partner. Instead, we want to help your partner to make sense of it, see it, validate it. We also want to help repair self-worth. That often requires separating feelings and beliefs about who we are from the way we felt about ourselves due to the betrayal of the loved one. ❤️‍🩹💝

Benefits of EMDR 💝

Instead of using most session time to describe the memory, session time is used to reprocess the memory;

You don’t have to talk about disturbing aspects of the memory; the processing is happening internally;

You have a chance to view your memory as a “scenery passing by” and separate what is real from the old stuff;

The client is always in control 🫶

For my therapist Friends.
I am excited to share that my application to become a supervisor in training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) has been approved by ICEEFT☺️☺️

I now have space to take on 2 therapists who are pursuing certifications in EFCT and are interested in being supervised by me on their journey to become certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapists (English or Russian speakers, any state, any country).
Also, it will be a really discounted price for my first therapists, since as a supervisor in training I will need to record our supervisions. I am excited to get my first people through this process to sharpen your EFT skills, help your couples connect and become certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapists!

The best way to teach out to me about this would be aly@coffee-cup-counseling.com

Infidelity repair.

Here are some of the most common issues and blocks that we encounter during the repair:

For the offending partner:

Shame vs guilt vs responsibility;
Grief responses;
Different sense of self (most common one is “I am now one of THEM, “the bad guy”);
Holding space for your partner’s pain;
Helping your partner understanding your reality;

For the wounded partner

Loss of trust (in the relationship and in self, the most common one is “How can I trust even myself if I didn’t see THAT coming”);
Loss of the previous sense of self;
Grieving the relationship;
Responses similar to the ones that we encounter in trauma survivors: flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance, negative view of self and others, etc.
Need for the partner to step up (to answer questions, hold space for the pain, provide reassurance and genuine remorse).

For the partners system as a whole:

Pre-infidelity (negative relationship cycle that preceded an affair);
Relationship breakup due to an affair;
Choice made to stay together and repair;
Adjustment to the new reality of the relationship (starting over);
Holding space for pain and difficult emotions;
Restructuring interactions, rebuilding trust and intimacy.

Grateful to a Holistic Chiropractic Injury Care in MetroWest Orlando organizing this wonderful Stress in a Big City event!

Stress creates physical changes in the brain that affect us and how we function daily.

- Difficulty focusing

- Memory issues

- Anxiety

- Sleep impairment

- Irritability and mood changes, and more!

How we work with stress:

- Understand the underlying cause;

- Deal with the issue, not the symptom;

- Learn how to help stress to be your friend, not your enemy.
