♥️ Myth vs Fact

Myth: “I feel fine, so my cholesterol must be fine.”

Fact: “High cholesterol often has no symptoms, you can only know through a blood test.”

Ask your healthcare provider for a cholesterol test 🩺 ♥️
Let’s give it the care it deserves 🫶

♥️ We all need some cholesterol in our bodies just to keep us ticking over, but having too much can clog up your arteries and lead to health problems in the future. Having too much of the "bad" cholesterol and not enough of the "good", can put us at risk for coronary heart disease.

It is a serious condition that affects nearly 102 million Americans over the age of 20. It’s estimated that over half of people in the US have high cholesterol but only 1 in 4 are aware they have it. That means millions of people could be at risk of heart disease without even knowing it! And since it is symptomless it can be hard to diagnose.
Don’t wait until high cholesterol becomes a health issue.

By getting a simple cholesterol test and making positive lifestyle changes, most people can keep their cholesterol levels healthy. Ask your doctor today how often you should have your cholesterol tested, based on your age, gender, weight, and other factors.

🫀 Remembering a Pioneer in Heart Health 🫀
Born August 31, 1886, Dr. Paul Dudley White was more than just a cardiologist, he was a visionary who helped shape modern heart care. As a founding father of the American Heart Association, Dr. White championed the importance of prevention, exercise, and healthy living long before it was common practice.

He once said: "A heart attack after 80 is an act of God. Before 80, it's a failure of the medical system."

His legacy lives on in every step we take toward better heart health. 🩺♥️

🌟 Cholesterol-Busting Foods 🌟 There are some foods that do more than just keep you healthy, they can actually help lower your cholesterol too! 💪

Try to include a few of these every day, especially if you’re also cutting down on saturated fat. The more you add them in, the bigger the heart-health boost.

♥️ Healthy Fats
Unsaturated fats can help lower "bad" cholesterol. Find them in:
🥑 Avocados
🌰 Nuts & seeds
🫒 Vegetable oils (olive, sunflower, rapeseed, etc.)
🐟 Oily fish
🥄 Spreads made from vegetable oils

♥️ Fruits & Veggies
Packed with fibre that helps block cholesterol from being absorbed. Great choices:
🍠 Sweet potato
🍆 Eggplant
🥦 Broccoli
🍎 Apples
🍓 Strawberries
🫘 Beans, peas & lentils

♥️ Plant Sterols & Stanols
These natural plant compounds block cholesterol absorption.
Look for:
🥛 Yogurt drinks, spreads, milk & yogurts with added sterols/stanols

♥️ Oats & Barley
These whole grains contain beta-glucan, a superstar fibre for lowering cholesterol.
🌾 Aim for 3g per day

♥️ Nuts
A handful a day can do wonders!
🥜 Full of unsaturated fats, plant sterols, fibre, vitamins & minerals – and super satisfying too.

♥️ Soya Foods
Swap high-fat meats & dairy for:
🍽️ Tofu
🥤 Soya milk
🍛 Soya beans & products – all low in saturated fat and great for heart health!
