🌸Welcoming our newest Board Certified Pediatric Occupational Therapist, Delanie!

👩‍⚕️Delanie earned her Master’s Degree in Occupational Science and comes to us with experience in neurological rehabilitation, pediatric private practice, and school-based settings. She has furthered her expertise with specialized training in Beckman Oral Motor, Learn Play Thrive’s Approach to Autism, and the Get Permission Approach to responsive and evidence-based feeding interventions.

💖She is particularly passionate about sensory integration, access to AAC, and aquatic therapy. Her approach is holistic and child-centered, & she is committed to fostering a supportive and empowering environment where every child can thrive and reach their full potential in their most natural environments: home, school, and nature-based settings.

The power of 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 cannot be overstated. We do this by assuming that individuals are 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 of learning, thinking, and understanding - even if they might not show it in a way that's easy to recognize.

This could be the wheelchair-bound teen with cerebral palsy, the autistic child who is nonspeaking or has limited language, or anyone else who may not have the ability to outwardly express their own comprehension of something. Presuming competence is a 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐬-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 approach that gives all learners the opportunity to learn without needing to 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 anything.

We do this by:
➡ Using age-appropriate tone.
➡ Not talking about the individual as if they were not there. Talk to them & include them in the conversation.
➡ Honor alternative methods of communication, such as AAC. Different does NOT mean less.

1️⃣ Ages 2-3: 2:30-3:30pm (1 caregiver required to accompany their toddler)

Aloha!🌺🌿 Some new faces here so thought it was time for an intro post. I’m Tabitha Tatum, founder of Mālama Yoga & Nature-Based Therapy, here with my fiancé, Jacob, and our 2 therapy dogs, Gabby & Yogi.🤍 Here’s a little about me:

✨Bachelor’s in Psychology with concentrations in Leadership & Family Studies from
✨Master’s in Occupational Therapy from
✨I’m neurodivergent! Diagnosed with ADHD in my early 20’s. Tried medication to help but ultimately found natural, holistic, sustainable supports instead.
✨I skipped the 5th grade & have always been a huge fan of individualized learning. I would get in so much “trouble” in class before this!
✨I grew up on a small farm in Virginia. Almost my whole family still lives there, & I miss them heaps.
✨We now live on the beautiful island of Maui and count our blessings every day for that!
✨ I’ve always known I wanted to work with kids, and almost every job I’ve ever had has involved little ones.
✨I thrive being outdoors - whether it’s hiking, surfing, or playing in my garden, you can always catch me chasing the sunshine.
