Meet Jennifer, one of our 2026 Malibu Moves Ambassadors.

In January 2025, Jennifer decided to take her life back. A college runner who'd stepped away, she returned to running to feel confident and energized again. Now she moves to inspire other parents, especially Latinas and underrepresented groups, that movement and achieving your dreams can be a reality.

Her race day mantra:

"Race day is my runway."

Jennifer is running the Half Marathon at Zuma Beach this October. Register at malibumoves.com

How young should a kid be to start running?

As young as possible.

Movement is one of the most powerful things a child can learn. Before organized sports, before PE class, before anyone tells them what fitness is supposed to look like, a kid who runs learns something fundamental: my body can do hard things, and it feels good on the other side.

That lesson doesn't expire. A child who connects movement with joy carries that into adolescence, into adulthood, into every season of life where they need something to steady them. It becomes a foundation, not a chore. The adults who move through hard things, literally and figuratively, are often the ones who started early.

The 1K Kids Run and 1-Mile Zuma Dash at Malibu Moves aren't about competition. They're about giving a kid the experience of a start line, a finish line, and the roar of a crowd that's there just for them. Some kids will sprint. Some will walk. All of them will remember it.

October 24 at Zuma Beach. Bring them young. Let them run.

Meet Sharon Sussman, one of our 2026 Malibu Moves Ambassadors.

Sharon was forced to defer the 2023 Chicago Marathon after emergency retinal surgery. When she returned in 2024 with a fractured wrist and toe, she ran it anyway and finished.

"No matter how many setbacks I faced, I could keep coming back stronger."

She's a proud LA Leggers member and competed on a medieval combat TV show in the early '90s, winning two of three appearances.

Sharon is running the Half Marathon at Zuma Beach.

$110,000 donated in just two years.

No corporate backing. No venture capital. Just a locally owned race in Malibu that decided, from day one, that community impact wouldn't be an afterthought.

It was going to be the foundation.

That number represents real decisions. It means saying yes to a charity entry model where runners register for free and fundraise their way in.

It means building a nonprofit, the Move Together Association, before the first runner ever crossed the finish line. It means choosing to give more when the easier path would have been to keep more.

$110,000 in two years means the Malibu Education Foundation can fund programs for local kids. It means Girls on the Run of LA County can reach more girls in more communities. It means the Emily Shane Foundation and the Sarah Shulze Foundation can continue work that matters deeply to the families behind them. It means the Malibu Moves Community Impact Fund can put dollars directly into the hands of people and organizations doing the work right here.

There are races backed by global sports brands that don't move this kind of money into their communities. We did it with a small team, a tight budget, and a belief that a race should leave a place better than it found it.

Year three is coming.

October 24 & 25 at Zuma Beach. And we're just getting started.

Meet Moe, one of our 2026 Malibu Moves Ambassadors, returning for his third year.

After surviving a rare brain tumor, aneurysm, two brain surgeries, a month in ICU in Frankfurt, and multiple rehabs, Moe joined a running club and never stopped. 10 marathons. Countless halfs. At least 10,000 steps a day for years. Not even neck surgery broke the streak.

He once paced Malibu Moves in a full waffle costume. He's also a 4-time Masters National Champion wrestler.

"Just being alive and thankful is enough to keep going."

Moe is running the Half Marathon at Zuma Beach.

I want to introduce you to Karen Macatula.

Karen reached out to us before last year's race and shared something I haven't stopped thinking about. Her daughter was born with NF1, a condition that causes tumors along the nerves.

When one of those tumors became malignant, Karen and her daughter fought it together with everything they had. On December 27, 2024, Karen lost her.

Her daughter's words through it all: "Don't give up."

Karen started running when her daughter was diagnosed. It became her way through. Not away from the grief, but through it. She ran the London Marathon. She ran Malibu Moves. She keeps going, because that's what her daughter asked her to do.

When she wrote to us, she said she hoped she could inspire others. I gave her that entry without a second thought, and I'd do it again every year. Because this is exactly what Malibu Moves is supposed to be.

A place where people bring their whole selves to the start line. Their joy, their loss, their reasons for running that go far beyond the miles.

Karen, this community is yours. We'll see you in October.

Meet Elizabeth, one of our 2026 Malibu Moves Ambassadors.

Elizabeth's running journey started as a teenager with Students Run LA. After stepping away and returning as an adult, she found something deeper in the miles: discipline, resilience, and community.

During a recent 50K, she sprained her ankle at mile 8 and made the tough call to drop to the half marathon. She finished anyway.

"Strength isn't always about finishing as planned. It's about adapting and continuing anyway."

Elizabeth is running the Half Marathon at Zuma Beach this October. Register at malibumoves.com

Course spotlight: La Piedra Beach.

Tucked into the bluffs along PCH, La Piedra is one of Malibu's hidden pocket beaches. Sandstone cliffs, tide pools, and the kind of coastline that makes you forget you're 13.1 miles into anything.

You'll pass it around mile 6 & 10 of the Malibu Moves Half Marathon. No other half marathon in Southern California takes you past places like this, because no other half marathon runs through Malibu. This is the only one.

The Chumash called this stretch of coast Humaliwo, "the surf sounds loudly." When you're running it with the waves below you and the mountains behind you, you'll hear exactly what they meant.

October 25, 2026. The only official Half Marathon in Malibu.

Meet Dr. Jessica, one of our 2026 Malibu Moves Ambassadors.

A former Division 1 cross country and track athlete, Jessica is now a running physical therapist and owner of Doctor of Human Movement. She helps runners find movement that's sustainable and supportive.

"Let it be an experience, not just a goal. Breathe in the ocean air and appreciate what your body is doing for you."

Her biggest advice: build mileage gradually. There's nothing to prove.

Dr. Jessica is running the Half Marathon at Zuma Beach.

There's a stretch of PCH you've probably driven a thousand times.

Windows up. Music on. Eyes on the car in front of you.

Now imagine it on foot. No windshield. No rush. Just the Pacific on your left and the Santa Monica Mountains on your right and the sound of your own breathing between them.

That's the Malibu Moves Half Marathon. 13.1 miles on a road most people only experience at 50 mph. You get to take it step by step.

October 25 at Zuma Beach.
