Tips to improve mental health in children:

Building in resilience: talk about setbacks that you have as an adult. Like disappointments about being passed for a promotion or coworkers saying things that are hurtful. Discuss the best way to respond when things don’t go your way. “Going High, when others go low”.

“Choosing kindness over retaliation.”

-Model good behavior to your children, and mental health. Crying is ok and it is ok to not be ok.

-Encourage safe connections. Who are your safe people? What can you do if you feel mad or sad?

-Encourage creativity, avoid finding things for your child to do when they are bored. Suggest making up a new board game with card board or writing a book.

-Provide routine and structure. Support predictability in your interactions. Having a daily routine that is predictable provides a sense of security.

-Create routines such as Friday night family dinner or third Sunday Fun day outings. To encourage kids to have something to look forward to.
