Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, William “Rusty” Dreyer and Alice (Pinky) Dreyer. Dennis had a deep love for sports and was a true fanatic, having played college ball himself. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, and spending time with his family. He especially cherished his dogs, Alice and Missy, and loved sharing stories of his adventures. He took classes at Arkansas State University alongside his granddaughter, Terra, something he was especially proud of. Known for his laid-back style, Dennis could almost always be found in his Converse and tie-dye shirts. Dennis was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He attended Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and later studied computer science at Garland County Community College. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home in Malvern, Arkansas. His ashes will be spread at a later time in the mountains and streams of the places he loved, as well as in Texas, where he was born. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. He will be remembered for his independent spirit, his love for the open road, and the deep love he had for his family. His presence, his stories, and his quiet strength will be missed more than words can express, but the memories he created will live on in those who knew and loved him. Although not all veterans grieve in the same way, sometimes the unique conflict situation veterans face and their inability to take time off to grieve the loss of a fellow service member, frequently brings on specific instances of survivor guilt and traumatic grief. Survivor guilt can be very intense for veterans, in fact it is most common among veterans diagnosed with Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Traumatic grief occurs when a loss is sudden, violent, and/or completely unexpected. This kind of grieving can also extend into physical pain, mental anxiety, and stress disorders. There are numerous resources available from family, friends, and organizations who stand ready to offer assistance. To learn more about veteran offerings, contact us at your convenience.

3 Truths About Grief:
1) Grief is personal.
You will never find two with the same grief journey, so don't compare yours to others.
2) Grief is not a linear journey.
Some days you may feel okay, other days fearful, and other days 5 feelings at once. Try to handle emotions with patience.
3) Grief is natural.
You may feel like you are losing your mind but in fact grief is a natural reaction to loss. Not only does it affect you mentally but it comes with physical symptoms as well. Practice self-care!
