We are honored to share the story of Mr. Vernon Cessor, who faithfully served 30 years in the Army National Guard. While his service took place during a time of peace, his dedication made a meaningful impact. During school segregation in Arkansas, Mr. Cessor was stationed in Pine Bluff to help keep peace within the community- an experience he carried with humility and pride.

Born in Mississippi and raised in Arkansas, Mr. Cessor eventually met his wife, Birdena, while visiting her family’s store in Oak Grove. The couple has shared 30 years of marriage and raised four children together.

After the military, he worked more than 30 years at Acme Brick in Malvern and enjoyed woodworking- building everything from children’s furniture and chairs to cabinets and outdoor projects whenever his health allowed.

Now 81 years old and living with complete hearing loss, Mr. Cessor continues to face new health challenges, including multiple amputations. Through it all, his resilience, service, and commitment to his community continue to inspire those around him.

💙 Thank you, Mr. Cessor, for your lifelong service to Arkansas, your community, and your country.

Senior of the Month – December
Please help us celebrate Jo Etta Reggans, Ms. Arbor Oaks 2024!

Jo Etta has been a resident of Arbor Oaks for 7 years and a lifelong member of the Malvern community. She attended Malvern High School, where she met her late husband. They were married an incredible 64 years and built a beautiful family of 7 children, 14 grandchildren (mostly boys—only two girls!), and 28 great-grandchildren.

When asked what she enjoys most about Arbor Oaks, Jo Etta says “the people.” She especially loves Sabrina—“so sweet and kind”—and Chyra, who always listens and cares. She proudly attends therapy and still makes her own bed: “I may not be as fast as I used to be, but I get it done. That’s what’s important!”

At 92, Jo Etta gives all glory to God, sharing that His grace is the reason she’s here today. She wants to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and reminds us to enjoy life, even through struggles—“just look to God.”
What a perfect message as we celebrate the birth of Jesus.

We had a wonderful evening with Tri-Lakes CASA.
An Ornamental Affair
A truly heartfelt evening in support of Tri-Lakes CASA—and a reminder that caring for children in foster care isn’t just something we show up for at events, or when one person is in the spotlight. It happens on ordinary days, in quiet moments, through steady dedication.

Tri-Lakes CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) provides compassionate volunteers who advocate for abused and neglected children—ensuring they have a consistent voice, a safe home, and a promising future. This work happens every day through the commitment of volunteers, staff, attorneys, judges, foster families, family service workers, board members, donors, and community supporters.

Serving children across Garland, Hot Spring, Grant, Clark, and Pike counties, Tri-Lakes CASA proves that when a community shows up consistently, lives are changed.

Grateful to everyone who steps in, not just once, but always. ♥️💯

Christmas Tree Display Highlight!
The Literacy Council of the Ouachitas brought the most creative tree to our display this year — it’s made entirely of books! Even better, the ornaments are photos of people in our community reading. How special is that?

At Arbor Oaks, we love literacy and the joy of books! The Hot Spring County Library in Malvern sends the Bookmobile to visit us each month, and it’s always a treat.

Thank you to the Literacy Council for sharing such a meaningful and imaginative tree with us. Come see it and all the others on display!
