We are honored to share the story of Mr. Vernon Cessor, who faithfully served 30 years in the Army National Guard. While his service took place during a time of peace, his dedication made a meaningful impact. During school segregation in Arkansas, Mr. Cessor was stationed in Pine Bluff to help keep peace within the community- an experience he carried with humility and pride.
Born in Mississippi and raised in Arkansas, Mr. Cessor eventually met his wife, Birdena, while visiting her family’s store in Oak Grove. The couple has shared 30 years of marriage and raised four children together.
After the military, he worked more than 30 years at Acme Brick in Malvern and enjoyed woodworking- building everything from children’s furniture and chairs to cabinets and outdoor projects whenever his health allowed.
Now 81 years old and living with complete hearing loss, Mr. Cessor continues to face new health challenges, including multiple amputations. Through it all, his resilience, service, and commitment to his community continue to inspire those around him.
💙 Thank you, Mr. Cessor, for your lifelong service to Arkansas, your community, and your country.
