Zeus, a sweet 7-year-old Husky, came to VRC for a neurology consultation with Dr. Suzanne Rosen, ahead of his upcoming surgeries with his primary veterinarian.

Zeus has had a unique way of walking since he was a puppy—wobbly back legs, a wider stance, and occasional knuckling of his back paws. Despite this, he’s always been active, playful, and pain-free.

Because Zeus has walked this way since birth and remains comfortable, there’s likely no underlying neurologic condition that can be corrected, which is good news!

Zeus’ owner, John, had this to say about his experience: ne of the best and most well equipped animal hospitals I have ever been to. I traveled 1.5-2 hours from Hershey to come here. It is highly recommended. Roughly 10 on call 24/7 emergency vets as well as a plethora of specialists on staff from oncologist to oral surgeons to neurologist. They even have a large portable MRI unit on site. In addition to that the staff was extremely friendly, clean, and knowledgeable. The doctor (neurologist) was 100% honest and up front about everything and had amazing bed side manner. If you're second thinking making the long drive or taking a chance to come here, stop second guessing and come. It is well worth the time, money, and drive.

Millie has been with VRC for about a year. She is seen primarily by Dr. Stacey Wylie of our internal medicine department for chronic GI disease and diabetes. We are happy to report that she is continuing to improve!

Mariella, Millie’s owner talked about her experience at VRC: “When we brought our diabetic rescue kitty, Millie, to Dr. Wylie, internist, to help us understand and treat her multiple ailments. We are not strangers to the costs of specialty vet care, and felt the cost of the intake visit and three needle aspirates of her tissues was quite fair. We were very favorably impressed with Dr. Wylie, and her nurse. We were seen timely, and only waited a reasonably short time for the procedures to be completed.

We continue to have great experiences at VRC, we are tweaking her meds a bit, to try for even more improvement. This care team is excellent to work with as partners in our efforts to help overcome the worst of Millie's IBD symptoms. Millie is a real "project cat" with her symptoms, and we very much appreciate the guidance and treatment recommendations from Dr. Wiley.

After reading Dr. Wylie's summary of Millie's issues, and treatment history ( including treatment at other previous vets) we felt we made an excellent choice for Millie's care, given her many concurrent health conditions. We hope to have a positive ongoing relationship with Dr. Wylie and her nurse to enable us to have more time with Millie in the future”

Meet Misty, who came to our Emergency Service feeling lethargic, not eating well, and running a fever. After a full exam and bloodwork, we suspect she may be dealing with an upper respiratory viral infection — something we often see in cats, especially when there’s a new kitten in the home.

Mistry received:
- Gave subcutaneous fluids to keep her hydrated
- Administered a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory to help her feel more comfortable
- Sent her home with an appetite stimulant to support her recovery

Misty’s family said “We followed their instructions and brought Misty back when she wasn't responding. The next vet was just as terrific as the first. Misty's out of the woods and we can't say enough. Since they triage pets according to the severity of their condition, we spent three hours including Misty's treatment and we didn't mind because the staff is amazing. Everything was explained thoroughly. This care is very expensive, but you get what you pay for. Highly recommended!”

Miss Moneypenny (Penny) is a charming English Bulldog who recently came to VRC for a big day of surgery and diagnostics to help her breathe easier and feel better!

Penny was diagnosed with Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome, a condition common in flat-faced breeds like bulldogs. Her symptoms included an elongated soft palate, everted laryngeal saccules, stenotic nares, and bronchitis — all of which can make breathing a real challenge.

Dr. Ken Sadanaga and our surgical team performed a series of procedures including:
- Soft Palate Trim
- Bilateral Laser Nares Surgery
- Laryngeal Sacculectomy
- GI Scope with Biopsy
- Tracheal Wash for Diagnostics

We’re thrilled to report that Penny did beautifully during surgery and recovered from anesthesia without a hitch! She’s now resting comfortably at home, where her family is helping her heal with lots of love and careful monitoring. They said” Dr. Sadanaga came highly recommended to us by friends and our vet. He is extraordinary at what he does and was incredibly kind, patient and gentle with our English bully who suffers from so much anxiety. His team of nurses took the vest care of her while she was hospitalized. I would recommend Dr. Sadanaga to anyone considering airway surgery for their dogs. He is the very best!

Sweet Janey recently visited our Emergency Service after her family noticed she wasn’t quite herself — she was tired, not eating well, and had some swelling in her joints. Bloodwork revealed she had thrombocytopenia (low platelets), which can be caused by many things, including tick-borne diseases.

After a thorough diagnostic workup — including blood tests, imaging, and a tick-borne disease panel — Janey tested positive for Rickettsia, a type of bacteria transmitted by ticks that can cause Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF). This explained her symptoms: fever, joint swelling, GI upset, and low platelets.

Thanks to quick action by our one of our Internists, Dr. Stacey Wylie and one of our Criticalists, Dr. Emiliana Hennelley, Janey is now on the road to recovery! She’s receiving immune-suppressive therapy and antibiotics, and her clinical signs are improving. Her family is keeping a close eye on her at home, and they said “Everyone from the front desk staff to the amazing nurses and veterinarians were excellent. They navigated some complex and scary health issues with Janey and they nailed it. She is well on her road to recovery!”

We’re so proud of Janey and her family for acting quickly and staying committed to her care. Tick-borne illnesses can be serious, but with early detection and proper treatment, pets like Janey can bounce back beautifully.

Meet Spike — a curious, playful 6-month-old kitten who recently had a bit of a tumble from his cat tree. His landing wasn’t quite as graceful as usual, and his family noticed he was acting more cautious and holding his tail a little differently.

One of our ER doctors; Dr. Karen D'Lauro examined Spike thoroughly and found mild swelling at the base of his tail and some tenderness, she determined that his injury could be a strain or a minor fracture. Since there’s no nerve involvement, both are treated similarly. Spike is now on a short course of anti-inflammatory medication and will be taking it easy for a few days (as much as a kitten can!).

We recently heard from Spikes owners, “The team took great care of our kitten Spike on a Sunday when our regular vet was close- you could tell they really love animals and Spike is all better now!” We’re happy to help, and glad to hear Spike is back to his old self!
