WHEN THE TWIN TOWERS CAME DOWN I QUESTIONED MY MOTIVES FOR WANTING TO RUN DOWN THERE TO GROUND ZERO. AS A DOCTOR I FELT OBLIGATED TO RESPOND BUT AT THE SAME TIME I JUST WANTED TO SEE THE SITE ( like morbid curiosity ).I shared this with a friend of mine, a fireman. He said âKevin go because AMERICANS FORGETâ. I threw a ton of medical equipment and supplies into the back of my pickup and went and set up a mash unit at the site, ground zero, where I stayed for a month: 7 days/week after office hours, treating and supporting first responders, mostly firemen searching for their fallen coworkers.
IâLL NEVER FORGET THAT TERRORIST ATTACK THAT KILLED ALMOST THREE THOUSAND PEOPLE!!
COVID-19 as of today has killed almost 1/2 million people. LETâS NOT FORGET.
MY FRIEND WAS RIGHT! AMERICANS âCANâ FORGET. Please stay home. Please avoid going to any healthcare facility unless absolutely necessary. See your doctor using telemedicine, and if absolutely necessary and you have to be seen, use the open urgent care centers. (There are two by my office who I am working with when I have to send someone for a blood test etc and they have eliminated copays etc for you all when I ask them to).
My friend, the firemanâs, was right in telling me to go volunteer at Ground Zero so that I would NEVER FORGET. I havenât!!I think if not for that experience I would be seeing my patients now in my office and not by telemed. I really would be in the office if not for my experience at Ground Zero. The decision is based on safety for all, especially my patients who can get a hold of me 24 seven.
Iâll never forget how the Twin Towers Attack killed almost 3,000 PEOPLE FROM ALL COUNTRIES.
1100 NEW YORK CITY RESIDENTS DIED THAT DAY Another SIX HUNDRED RESIDENTS OF NEW YORK STATE. The twin tower attack was devastating. The entire city of New York shut down. Almost 3000 people died from the Terrorist Attack!!
BUT NOW In just a few months almost 1/2 million people have died from the coronavirus attack, compared to 3000 at ground zero.
1100 residents of New York City died on 9/11. 18,000 residents of new York city just died from the coronavirus.
1700 residents of New York state died at the twin towers attack. Over 30,000 New York State residents just died from the coronavirus. JUST DIED!!!!
Again, almost 3000 people from all over the world died from the twin towers attack, and almost 1/2 million people just died worldwide from this coronavirus.
SHOULD WE FORGET?? No!!!
When we heard a couple of months ago that it was projected that by July 130,000 people would die from the coronavirus in the United States it seemed almost impossible that this could happen, right? Well it has. We are close to that number.
****** Because of this national emergency Telemedicine restrictions with regards to seeing your doctor even just by telephone without video have been lifted. The CDC is encouraging all to use telemedicine by eliminating restrictions, eliminating co-pays and deductibles as a means of eliminating illness and death caused by Covid 19.
We have all heard the term âsave lives, stay home â. This term originated from healthcare workers in hospitals and healthcare facilities, for the protection of both healthcare workers and patients but most importantly to decrease spread of this virus. So please still stay home and DO NOT FORGET.
Do not be lulled into a false sense of security because of the apparent disappearance of deaths caused by the coronavirus in New York State ( BUT 17 people still died today in New YORK).
WE HAVE BECOME IMMUNE TO THE STAGGERING NUMBER OF DEATHS FROM THIS VIRUS.
The reason for the decrease in deaths presently is because you all stayed home, socially distanced, wore masks, frequently washed your hands, changed your clothes after coming home from work to protect family members.....Please continue to do the same whenever possible.
Donât hesitate to Call your doctor when you are sick: donât assume that, as in the past, most likely you are suffering from, for example, a common cold if you develop a fever sore throat, chest congestion, loss of smell, G.I. symptoms, any shortness of breath or wheezing.... seek advice and treatment from your doctor.
Letâs not forget that we shut down the entire country to control this virus to decrease the death, but still rising and killing almost a half million people, worldwide, in just a few months.
SO, I will continue to treat all of my patients using telemedicine until restrictions are removed knowing that when restrictions are removed by the CDC and federal government that we have returned to normal in terms of health risks with regard to this coronavirus.
This is extremely hard on all of us, but just ask anyone who had a family member or loved one die how hard this all is for them. THEY WILL NEVER FORGET. In respect for them and their loved ones letâs please try do the same.
LETâS NOT FORGET.
I realize that the economy has to reopen, people have to work, support their families educate their children and CAN do so following all recommendations from the CDC. I feel sorry for those who have suffered financially and believe me there are many. In addition to donating 10% of my salary, to supply these people this winter with food, clothing and toys for their children at Christmas time, I am putting a bin outside of my office and I would ask that those who can afford to drop off new winter clothing, not stuff youâre looking to get rid of, but new clothing, such as coats hats gloves, please do so. I, along with my volunteers will distribute your donations to families in need: through Saint Ritaâs free medical clinic we know of many.
Unfortunately for the protection of all, as we operate Saint Ritaâs free medical clinic in a public space, St Ritaâs is presently closed and we are referring St Ritaâs patients elsewhere.
Remember we had the highest death rate in the entire country and turned that completely around by staying home. Letâs keep things the same and not be fooled, not forget. Remember the entire country shut down, Airlines shut down and we have to be especially careful now as all open up.
If anybody has any suggestions as to a Bin that I can place outside of my office that people Can drop off new clothing into it without others taking being able to take stuff out of the bin, I would appreciate your advice. I would pay a carpenter to make me something. The last time I had a bin outside the office for this same purpose people were not careful in taking clothing for themselves and the sidewalk outside my office became strewn with clothes which is why I need something secure now, and, also, safe in terms of health precautions. We had to remove the last bin because of the mess being made on the sidewalk from clothing been taking out and strewn all over the street. This time we will collect and hand out this clothing, myself and Volunteers of Saint Ritaâs free medical clinic. We notice every year at Saint Ritaâs free medical clinic Christmas Party, many indigent children who stand on line out in the cold waiting to receive toys, shoe less if you can believe that, many using blankets as coats⊠I know things are going to be worse this year for these families, so please remember these families if yo are able to. Last December we gave a large (heavy duty garbage size) bag FULL of new toys and clothing to the over TWO THOUSAND CHILDREN who showed up at ST RITA'S CHRISTMAS PARTY
(DEC 18th 7PM at my office this year),
Hang in there all of you. I miss you all. Weâll all get through this. I commend each and everyone of my patients who I speak to every single day who are staying home and following all recommendations and Iâm sure youâre going to continue to do the same to contain this virus which is not going away and is expected to return with a vengeance again in the fall. AND, Iâm sorry for the length of this (for those of you who did read all).

All are invited to join this celebration to experience the joy of giving. Dr Maloney thanks his patients and all of his friends throughout Westchester County who have worked hard each and every year to supply thousands of local deserving children with TOYS AT CHRISTMAS.
DR.MALONEY extends HIS special thanks to
Mamaroneck Police Officer Michael DeCunzo and Officer Michael Valente who worked tirelessly all day and night long sorting out thousands of toys and helping to hand them out along with Officer Charles Dehsensky and Detective Richard Caroll
The numerous Policemen from the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department who under the direction of Detective Bernard McKnally have volunteered their time to ensure the safety of all every year as thousands of children and their families line up to greet Santa and receive their gifts every December outside of DR Maloney's office.
Westchester District Attorney John George who for years has and continues to volunteer his time overseeing undercover security measures for all during this huge event making this party safe for all.
The Village of Mamaroneck Public Works and Fire Department volunteers who under the direction of Mike Comblo along with all the Volunteer Police and Firemen from all towns throughout Westchester County make this event take place safely every year.
County Executive Senator George Latimer for dedicating his time to honor St Ritas Free Medical Clinic and all our Volunteers with numerous Proclamations and Awards.
The Village of Mamaroneck Chief of Police and
ESPECIALLY our Mayor, MAYOR OF MAMARONECK TOM MURPHY along with all of the other volunteers from all Departments from the Village of Mamaroneck who have supported and volunteered their time to contribute to this joyous event each year.
Nat Picco and his family who each year provide the decorations and lighting to make this a truly festive event with music and Santa and his helpers waving and ringing their bells for all to enjoy the spirit of Christmas.
To all the schools, churches and synagogues and all organizations throughout Westchester County that are too many to mention here, who along with Dr. Maloneyâs patients have generously donated and dropped off new toys to Dr. Maloney's office every year for us to be able to supply literally thousands of needy indigent children each and every year for the last 27 years with wonderful toys at Christmas time. These are local children in need and are from families who cannot afford to purchase such gifts for their children at Christmas as most of us are able to do for our own children. WE have hundreds of children who show up to this event every year, in fact one year we literally had 3,000 children come and the least we have had show up to receive toys was about 800 children so we really depend on you, our wonderful community, to continue to support this event as you have always done and we thank you.
The joy we see on the faces of these children at this party is a reminder to all us volunteers
of the true meaning of Christmas and the "spirit of giving". All are welcome. Please join us
on Dec 21, 2018 at 7PM outside of Dr Maloney's office this year to share in the spirit of the
Holidays and if you can find it in your hearts to drop off a new unwrapped toy to Dr
Maloney's office it would be greatly appreciated.
All donations to St Rita's Free Medical Clinic are tax deductible. Donations are used to purchase toys and also medical supplies for Dr Maloney's Free Medical Clinic where patients are seen free of charge by DR Maloney and community volunteers every Friday evening (6PM) at St John's Lutheran Church, Mamaroneck.
