Yesterday’s Women’s Symposium hosted by Westchester was truly beautiful.

I felt so honored to be in a room filled with incredible women who are committed to lifting one another up, inspiring others, and bringing more joy, laughter, and meaning into the world — all in the spirit of tikkun olam, the mission to heal and repair the world.

I also had the privilege of working alongside such amazing women to help create a truly meaningful morning.

And thank you to for having the entire audience laughing out loud — what a gift.

It was deeply inspiring to hear the stories and traditions that connect us and remind us how powerful community can be in building a better future for the next generation. ✨

Goji is one of the most well-known TCM ingredients. Its name gou qi zi first appeared in The
Book of Songs more than two thousand years ago. The roots of a medicinal goji plant
resemble dogs, hence the name gou qi zi (gou means “dog” in Chinese). Its medicinal value
has been celebrated in many pieces of ancient Chinese literature. A very famous poet from
the Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE), Liu Yuxi, wrote a poem in tribute to goji. He described a well
in a Buddhist temple around which goji plants were flourishing. Their green leaves and ruby
red fruits were reflected on the well water, making a very beautiful scene. The monks called it
“the goji well” and believed that the water from it could cure illness and prolong life. He then
pointed out that the Toaists consumed goji and its roots to achieve immortality. In the last
phrase of the poem, Liu Yuxi referenced the Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing (The Divine Farmer’s
Materia Medica), the oldest-surviving Chinese materia medica, and Taoist philosopher Laozi
to say that goji was one of the top-grade herbs that could be compared to the magical dew
made by the marriage of heavens and earth.
