Since it's the weekend, let's take a closer look at the value of recreation!
With work and commitments, our weeks can get pretty busy quickly. Off time and weekends can be used for rest, chores and responsibilities, and supporting others. These are all great!
However, engaging in recreation regularly has so many benefits, so it's important to make time to do it! A culture where everyone is so busy and more productivity can be seen as virtuous, we could be scared to slow down and do something that is purely for recreation and enjoyment. But with how rejuvenating recreation can be, having regular recreation can help us be more productive, more caring, and more at peace when we engage in the responsibilities of life. Recreation gives us healthier coping skills, strengthens our bodies and minds, and creates new pathways toward joy, meaning, and connection.
It's a simple, easy way to keep a healthy and resilient life in recovery as it reinforces healthy habits and maintains mental health.
Whether it's exercise, sports, getting out in nature, simple walks, arts and crafts, reading, or whatever, you probably know what it is you like to do. So, we're here to encourage you to take some time for recreation. Even if it's small amounts every week, it can go a long way.
