SENSORY GYM

Sensory gyms are safe, structured settings where children enjoy guided play that promotes cognitive-behavioral, social skills and enhances motor development. When combined with other therapies, a sensory gym can amplify results by reinforcing the treatment of sensory disorders. Our program increases independence, eases stress in social situations and raises tolerance to new sensations coming from the body and the environment. Regardless of whether your child has specials needs, a sensory gym promotes skill and developmental growth for all participants. Our equipment is designed to provide proprioceptive and vestibular sensory input -- swings, trampolines, therapy balls, etc. Use of our facility will let your child reach their highest potential in a safe, secure, non-threatening environment. Our therapists work hard to make the children feel comfortable and have fun while working on their fine and gross motor development amongst many others. Our Sensory Gym is equipped with the following features:

- Linear & rotational swings (net, lycra, pogo, platform swing, and more!)
- Multiple colorful climbing walls
- Vertical & Horizontal ladders (Jungle Gym)
- Zip line
- Trapeze
- Crash Pads
- Slide
- Play house
- Sensory balls of all shapes and sizes
- Bubble Table

- Foam Pit
- Ball Pit
- Jump deck
- Jell Floor tiles
- Weighted dolls
- Dress up clothes
- Putty
- Trampoline
- Crawling tunnel
- Double squeezer
- Interaction leg board
- Balance beam
- And MORE! One of the main reasons parents bring their child to a sensory gym is if a child has something called a Sensory Integration Dysfunc-tion or Sensory Processing Disorder. Children who are properly di-agnosed with SPD suffer from inability to integrate sensory infor-mation properly in the brain causing problems in development, in-formation processing and behavior. Use of our sensory gym will facilitate proper sensory responses in every child using movement together with other stimuli to achieve a child's success in any social or physical situation. However, a sensory gym is a beneficial tool for ANY child. Even if your child doesn't have a Sensory Integration Dysfunction but you simply want to advance their current physical level then a sensory gym can be just the right place. During our program, licensed therapists will guide your child through various activities that challenge his or her ability to respond appropriately to sensory input by making a successful, or-ganized response. Activities are specifically tailored for your child and will help meet and exceed your child's developmental needs. We focus on getting your child to elicit appropriate sensory responses on their own while being exposed to various stimuli. Signs of Sensory Integration Dysfunction may include

- Overly sensitive to touch, movement, sights or sounds
- Under-reactive to sensory stimulation
- Activity level that is unusually high or unusually low
- Coordination Problems
- Delays in sp*ech, language, motor skills or academic achievement
- Poor organization of behaviors
- Poor self-concept

Other areas of interest

- Hand-eye coordination
- Fine & Gross motor skills
- Balance and coordination
- Body awareness
- Muscle strength

OROFACIAL MYOFUNCTIONAL THERAPY

Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs) are disorders of the muscles and functions of the mouth and face. OMDs may affect many aspects of life such as breastfeeding, facial skeletal growth and development, oral hygiene, facial appearance, eating, sleeping, sp*ech and much more. Most OMDs are the result of improper tongue's position when swallowing. Correct swallowing depends on a harmonious relationship between the muscles of the face, mouth, and throat. Even though a person swallows 500-1000 times a day it is the tongues resting position that presents the most concern since it is more constant. Most commonly this improper tongue position is referred to as a "tongue thrust". Even though it is common in infants, as the child develops the tongues' position should recede. Many times the protruding tongue is found in children with developmental and sp*ech disorders, as well as those with misaligned teeth. With Myofunctional therapy the tongues improper position can be improved restoring the health of our patients. Our Myofunctional therapy experts will work with your child to improve facial aesthetic and correct tongues position to ensure continued oral health despite having a developmental disorder. Myofunctional therapy is an individualized approach to each child based on age, that will help improve the tongues position and allow for correct swallowing as therapy progresses. With continued therapy you will see an improvement in facial appearance, oral hygiene, eating, and even sleeping. Recognizing and treating OMDs early can have an enormous benefit to improving your child's self-esteem and restoring confidence. At TOTville we strive to educate the parents on affects of OMDs and make therapy accessible to all that need it. What to look for

Children who are diagnosed with OMDs exhibit signs of a "protruding tongue" while speaking, swallowing, and even when at rest. This may present many problems beyond the facial appearance. If not treated OMDs can cause many problems, including:

- Misaligned teeth
- Overbite, overjet and underbite
- Tooth decay and gum disease
- Thumb-sucking
- Teeth-grinding
- Facial pain
- Sp*ech problems
- Mouth breathing
- Sleep apnea
- Stomach aches
- Poor posture
